TOMORROW!

Based on our last poll, this is one of the new shows I am adding to the roster. I’ve heard all the great things you all had to say about this show and the many many reasons I will enjoy it. I’m very pumped to encounter all it has to offer :)

HOWEVER!! You all know how I feel about horror content in general👀 I just want you all to be aware that if it’s too much for me to handle, I am going to drop the show. I hope it doesn’t come to that and I can fully enjoy this. But I like my sleep and sanity🎅🏾

TOMORROW!

Thanks for this comment and thank you for being here

Decided to become a Patron finally after you posted this on youtube. I have to say , Mike Flannagan's shows are quite good for people who aren't big on horror but want to get into it. There's scares for sure, but the core of all of his shows is family and love. *Maybe slight spoiler but nothing specific that you haven't already said thus far* but you leave his shows feeling more sad than scared. For anyone wanting to get into his work, Hill House is a great place to start but it also may actually be the scariest one. So don't be put off if that one seems too much to handle, they're not all at that level. The Midnight Club is probably the tamest if you want something more akin to "Campfire Ghost Stories" vs real horror.

😂 ...meeeee tooooo...

Praying for your scary bone recovery 😂

Okay I looked up a few Flanagan shows and I've seen Doctor Sleep and Midnight Mass for sure -- and I loved both of those. I recognize other titles too...I bet I've seen more. And I think I liked all of them (in varying degrees). Honestly, I don't know why I didn't click with Hill House because it should be right up my alley. I mean, I even have a lifetime history of sleep paralysis myself (its been scaring the snot outta me since I was a toddler...I've had a silent Dark Watcher in my bedroom at night my whole life...it's terrifying)...so I was all ready to love Hill House in so many ways. Now I'm even more confused because I've seen Mike Flanagan do shows which portray the sleep paralysis issue so much better. And, btw, I tried to get my hubby to watch Hill House with me (he loves horror so much) but after episode 3 he was begging me to change the channel, he was so bored. I was like, "phew! I thought it was just me!". He never finished it. I did -- alone in the house in the dark of night...it still wasn't scary! Is my scary bone broken??? 😂. Man...you know, part of my problem with Hill House is I wanted to like it so much. It's like a disappointment feeling, I guess?

ArcAngel

Thank you for not eviscerating me, Valaree! ❤❤❤. ..I'm not sure if I've seen other Mike Flanagan shows...I will go look it up and be right back to report! Unless you know the names of the shows offhand?

ArcAngel

I will say for how scary it is, I think it is beautifully balanced by a story of mystery grief and love. This is a spooky story about a family and a house. Theres more to it but I so don't want to spoil

Miki

Totally valid! Have you tried any other Mike Flanagan shows? They all start off pretty slow in my opinion so if you’re not vibing with it or feeling the tension I could see getting bored. I love his stuff, but it’s more about the characters than the horror for me.

Valaree

Admittedly, I'm not scared easily ( I won't watch any horror which is actually just 'suffering/torture porn' like Hostel, etc...yuck)...but I do enjoy scary stuff and for whatever it's worth, I didn't think Hill House was scary at all. The problem I had was low level boredom in the first few episodes and for whatever reason, the story was very predictable for me much of the time (which added to a lack of excitement). I know nobody will agree but I'm admitting this knowing everyone is going to disagree with me, because: 1. I honestly don't think you need to worry about being scared ...if that's reassuring at all? And 2. in case you find some aspects predictable or find the first few episodes to be a slow burn, you won't feel completely alone. Absolutely no offense intended to all the Hill House fans....I do understand why you guys like this show. Its just, for some unknown reason, I was on the right mental wavelength with this show and always seemed to anticipate what was coming. It was probably a freak occurrence ...I dunno. I'm not normally ridiculously good at guessing plots -- I swear! Please don't hate me too much! 😂 When this came out, I was SO excited about this show and wanted desperately to love it! I adore haunted house movies and couldn't have been more on board. I'm sorry... I really tried! ❤

ArcAngel

I share your feelings about horror, so I reserve the right to chicken out even if you don't, but perhaps this is my gateway to the genre

Leticia

Much like you I'm too scared to watch it myself on a big screen. So I'm gonna watch your reaction to the first episode on my small laptop screen and see what I think! Should be less scary that way 😄

Kim D

Yaaaay! Once you make it through the first episode I can point you to some in-show dialogue (if you don’t spot it yourself) that I think describes the purpose of horror as a medium really well. It might help you digest the rest :)

And it never ever made me afraid to be alone at home. :)

I still think the TV show Evil is more up your street. The title makes it seem scarier, but it’s actually a very intelligent, thought provoking, almost satirical show. You’d laugh in it many times I’m sure. :) But let’s go up that Hill!

Christina H

I will watch again. Not a horror fan, but I’m with you in spirit!!

Christina H

I hope you find the horror aspect to be tolerable as the story itself is rich and so incredibly moving as it all comes together. It really is a masterpiece of a show that I hope you enjoy! That said, if you find that its too much but you're still open to watching something from Mike Flanagan then I would recommend Midnight Mass. Its just as much of a masterpiece as Hill House but a little bit more tame (in my opinion) when it comes to scary imagery and jump scares.

Jenny Jackson

So excited for your reactions! I am a scaredy cat and I revisit Hill House every Halloween. It has its spooky moments but the writing is the true heart of what makes this show incredible. There’s maybe two actual jump scares.

Amanda Hill

woohoo!!! this is so exciting! re: the horror aspect i am super horror avoidant (i.e. this is the only scary thing i've watched over the past few years) but found that this show is so worth sticking it through for.

alee

It's been a really tough week and this made my day. I think you'll find it thrilling.

Bethany that's me

I'm sure you will enjoy it. This series is not typical horror story, amazing story behind it and fantastic acting🙂 P. S there is some jumpscares be ready but tasty not the cheap ones, no gory stuff, no blood... You will see, I can't wait for your reaction, this make so excited 😁😁❤️

Julita Piotrowska

yayyyyyy! regardless of however far into the show you manage to get, i'm super pumped for this. i must've rewatched it about five times by now! maybe this'll inspire me to finally start the book it's inspired by - it's been on my stack for a couple of years. that being said, i hope you can watch or do something more lighthearted to balance it out with. ❤️‍🩹
