I didn't see it mentioned in the comments but the movie you were thinking about was, "what dreams may come." That was a great call out and it is my favorite Robin Williams movie.

I’ve been considering a rewatch this winter, and I subscribed SO FAST when I saw you were doing a reaction - I hope you enjoy it!!

It made me think...my small apartment in a dangerous neighborhood...is not bad..I have something to work on and work towards. I am atheist...but after watching, if afterlife is perfect, what does one do with their time? This very silly show makes me appreciate all the negative around me...because I have something to work on and work towards. Anyhow...this "heaven" looks hellish to me. SNOREGASM!!!

They explain the premise, they bring the conflict, and let it go wild! Oh, what a fantastic ride you have ahead. That's all I'll say! I couldn't wait for you to meet Chidi. One of the best sitcom characters in the world, and the heart of the show already. You're right, what must he be feeling, having arrived in Paradise, and finding himself in the only error that's ever happened? The actor James Masters said in an interview that everyone has a Shakespearean archetype that speaks to them about their own lives, and "overwhelmed person in a crazy world where nothing makes sense and just wants a minute of peace but it's impossible" is mine, so I seriously relate to Chidi so much. And the being unable to swear, well, the show aired on network tv in regular hours, so regulations would prohibit swearing, and I thought it was so hilariously clever how they went around that problem and incorporated it into the plot, instead of trying to pretend Eleanor wouldn't swear! 😅 Glad you enjoyed the premise, I'm seated for the rest!

2024-12-02 23:01:08 +0000 UTCi just got done rewatching this myself haha, but i love it enough that i am enjoying your commentary too :) it's a good one, very thought provoking. and like you said in the beginning, if there wasn't humor in the writing, this would be a very dark show. this one gets me thinking, and i even sometimes refer to it in regular conversations about religion/afterlife. i watched it when it aired weekly, and those cliffhangers really got me! i could not tell where the show was going to go, but i enjoyed all of it!
