Nick returning to the spot he convinced Frank to go meet the Greeks and just seeing the ruin spread out over the port. The future his family fought so hard for is dying and no one with any power cares to stop it. And his Uncle, the one man who sold his soul to try and turn back the tide itself, to make those in power listen, is gone and his legacy is buried with him. In that moment, I like to think Nick realizes how foolish he was to throw away the future for the present, and will forever spend his life chasing down that better future Frank wanted to give him.

2024-11-30 13:00:00 +0000 UTCThat scene where Nick is talking about how Frank basically saved his life, and the camera switches focus to Frank's picture watching over his shoulder fuckin gets me every time. What a great character. People who think season 2 is bad are craaaaazy man. Fun tidbit - at the end, when Valchek gets the last picture of his surveillance van from Australia he laughs, calls Frank a cocksucker, and then says "rest in peace" in Polish. I love how The Wire takes the time to humanize even its most hateable characters - it would have been too easy to show Valchek gloating like an asshole over Frank's death, but instead he says a prayer for him. Anyway, glad to hear you're still in for S3. Thanks man!

It was gratifying to see them sweat, but they’re very well protected. Sad truth is, the bad guys get away with it sometimes. The cops left The Greek on the corkboard, I think that means they aren’t giving up on closing that open question some day. It will be hard to get this close to him again, though.
