"Stupid son, where are you going?" Mother shouted at me, still fuming.
"I'm hungry, going to find something to eat..." I replied offhandedly, quickly making my escape. My ear still ached, a reminder that my mother was not to be messed with at the moment.
As I left, I shot Old Hao a wink and smirked: You can deal with this mess yourself!
I hadn't gone far when the rich aroma of meat wafted over, making my stomach growl. I sniffed deeply and followed the scent to the kitchen looked like Senior Brothers were making dinner.
My stomach rumbled, whether from exhaustion or because I'd advanced to the Fate-Knowing Realm, I didn't know, but the smell made me feel ravenous.
Pushing open the kitchen door, I was greeted by steam and the mouthwatering scent of food.
"That's... braised pork ribs!"
I nearly drooled, greedily inhaling the aroma of fat and sauce.
"Junior Brother, you came at the perfect time! The ribs are just ready, try some!" Senior Brother's rough voice called out from the rising steam.
He saw me, grinned, and fished out a chunk of saucy rib, blowing on it before striding over. His huge frame loomed over me as he offered the spoon, his eyes full of honest warmth.
"This afternoon I asked Mistress how to make this dish knew you liked it, so I made it just for you..."
I felt a warmth in my chest.
"Thanks, Senior Brother, let me try!"
I took the spoon, and the rib was rich and tender, the fat melting on my tongue in a rush of flavor.
Mmm, almost as good as Mother's. "Delicious..." I mumbled, mouth full.
Senior Brother, seeing my satisfaction, grinned and dumped the rest of the ribs onto a plate, the sauce splattering and the aroma intensifying.
"All for you!" he said heartily, as if he'd accomplished something major.
I didn't hold back, grabbed a stool, and dug in. Grease dripped down my fingers, burning my mouth, but I couldn't stop.
As I ate, Senior Brother put down the rag, wiped his hands, and slowly squatted beside me. The two-meter-tall giant, squatting, was level with me sitting a mountain of a man radiating heat.
"What's up, Senior Brother?" I asked, a rib in my mouth, glancing at him.
"Junior Brother... you weren't mad yesterday, right?" His voice was low, a little cautious.
"Huh?" I was confused, my mind still on the food.
So much had happened in the last day, I'd forgotten what he was talking about.
Senior Brother scratched his head, his honest face reddening. "It's just... yesterday... when I held Mistress like that..."
His reminder brought back the image of his iron arms around Mother's thighs, holding her like a child peeing, his thick cock thrusting in and out of her...
Cough cough! The rib stuck in my throat and I nearly choked.
The meat in my hand suddenly lost its appeal, my greasy fingers frozen midair, feet itching with embarrassment.
"Slow down!" Senior Brother reached out his fan-sized hand to pat my back.
"Stop! Cough... Senior Brother, I'm fine!" I waved him off.
Looking at this usually boisterous, loyal guy, then at the ribs he made, I never expected him to bring up such a taboo topic.
I tried to brush it off, but didn't know what to say, so I just swallowed the meat.
"Junior Brother, I don't get those worldly rules..." Senior Brother said sincerely, his rough voice unusually soft. "I just know you, Mistress, and Qingshan are the most important people to me. So... I just want you all happy, I'll do anything. Mistress said you liked watching... I didn't get it, but if it made you happy, then..."
His words stunned me, and the rib slipped from my fingers onto the table.
Thinking back, in this body's memories, after Father died, Mother changed due to her cultivation, neglecting the Senior Brothers, who grew up wild. Their views were worlds apart from my earthling soul.
Senior Brother's ignorance of taboo was just pure loyalty and love?
Seeing his honesty, I swallowed and tried to calm the strange heat inside me. "Yeah... got it, Senior Brother..."
"Oh, and Qingshan feels the same way!" He grinned, as if a weight was lifted, and added that Second Senior Brother agreed too always thinking of his brother.
It gave me a chance to change the subject. "Where's Second Senior Brother, not cooking with you?"
"He's in the room, sewing!"
"Sewing?" I frowned, thinking I'd misheard.
"Yeah! We picked up some pelts in town, Qingshan's making a cushion for Mistress, said tomorrow's sedan ride will be bumpy, so it'll be comfy." Senior Brother grinned.
I pictured the two-meter-tall, musclebound Second Senior Brother, fingers like most men's thumbs, sewing with a tiny needle at the bedside...
The absurd image made me desperate to see.
"Senior Brother, these ribs are great, save the rest for me! I'm going to check on Second Senior Brother!" I wiped my hands and stood.
"Hey, Junior Brother, you still didn't say if you were mad..." he called after me.
"Huh? Oh... not mad! Not mad! Gotta go!" I hurried out, face red, and soon heard him humming a tune, sounding relieved.
He'd let go of his burden, but I was still suffocating from embarrassment...
I soon reached the Senior Brothers' quarters. It was dark, with warm light spilling from the window.
I knocked. "Knock knock knock."
"Come in," Second Senior Brother's gentle voice called, sounding focused.
I entered. The room was softly lit, candlelight flickering. As I'd imagined, Second Senior Brother sat cross-legged on the bed, his big fingers working a needle through a piece of soft fur.
He was focused, steady as a mountain, but the contrast was comical. I couldn't help but laugh.
He looked up, saw me laughing, glanced at the needle, and then grinned, showing his white teeth, laughing with me.
I laughed so hard I bent over, the previous awkwardness dissolving into a strange warmth.
But then I felt a twinge of guilt Second Senior Brother was always the caring one, and I'd been so focused on advancing my realm that I'd neglected too much. I bit my lip and said quietly, "Thanks for your hard work, Second Senior Brother."
"Not hard at all!" he said, scooting over and patting the bed. "Come, Junior Brother, sit!"
I sat beside him and touched the fur. It was soft as a cloud.
"This fur's from Old Jia the cloth merchant in town," he explained. "Ran into him today, his cart was loaded. The fur was top-notch, so I bought some to make Mistress a cushion for the sedan tomorrow bumpy ride, more comfortable."
I nodded, my gaze drawn to the needle in his hand. "Thanks," I said again.
He was surprised, then stopped sewing. "Thank me? We're family. Without Master and Mistress, I'd have died of starvation."
In his childhood, his village was struck by famine, his family lost. Master and Mistress found him and took him in.
Even if I'm not the original me, and Mother isn't the original her, we inherited this bond.
"Second Senior Brother, food's almost ready, come eat, finish this later."
"I'm not hungry, you go ahead. Senior Brother made your favorite ribs, I'll eat when I'm done."
I nodded, blinked away some stinging in my eyes, and left.
Often, I could feel that although the effects of the "Beast Desire Technique" lingered, the brothers' higher cultivation had let them regain some of their true selves.
This genuine family care made my tense nerves relax a little, as if I finally had a real "backing" in this world...
Leaving Second Senior Brother's room, I wandered into the dining hall. The table was piled with steaming dishes, but no one was there.
Mother and Old Hao hadn't come, Lingxi was probably still asleep, and Wang Zheng was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Senior Brother?" I wondered, grabbing a rib and gnawing away. Just as I finished, Senior Brother came in.
"Full, full!" I said, licking my fingers and patting my belly, about to slip away.
"So fast?" Senior Brother scratched his head. "What's up today, no one's eating."
I hurried off, not wanting to hear what else he'd blurt out.
Shaking my head, I soon reached Mother's room, just as Old Hao came out.
"Uncle Hao!" I winked.
He rubbed his shiny ear, clearly still smarting from Mother's pinch.
"Ahem... reached the Fate-Knowing Realm?" he coughed, covering his embarrassment.
"Yeah." I nodded, chest out, a little proud.
"No wonder, his son indeed." Old Hao sighed, eyes complicated.
"Uncle Hao, I wanted to ask about realms."
After entering Fate-Knowing, aside from stronger divine sense, I felt little change. This realm was unique to the Longevity Technique, so I wanted expert advice.
He pulled a thin booklet from his robe and handed it to me. "Had this ready for you."
I flipped through it recordings of techniques created by Longevity Sect Fate-Knowing masters.
I bowed deeply. "Thank you, Master!"
"Good, good..." he replied, sounding proud but also a little sad.
That look did he want me to call him Dad?
"Master, where are you going?" I quickly changed the subject.
"Down the mountain, to prepare for tomorrow with your mother." He rubbed his ear, forced a smile, and left.
"Okay, you go ahead, I'll check on Mother." I waved, figuring her anger must have cooled.
Watching him go, I entered Mother's room and found her at the dressing table.
I froze.
Mother had really changed into that red, high-slit qipao, the sheer fabric hugging her curves. From the side, her body was all curves, long legs clad in white lace stockings utterly bewitching.
In the mirror, I saw her chest, the huge cutout revealing a swath of white breast, the pink edge of her areola just visible.
Seeing me enter, Mother rolled her eyes. "Full?"
"Yeah!" I grinned, sidling up and staring at her reflection, eyes glued to her cleavage.
"Mom... you're so sexy in this." I grinned, and before she could react, buried my face in her soft breasts, inhaling her scent.
"Ah! Get up, I'm trying on clothes!" she protested, pushing me away, hand on her chest. Suddenly she froze, eyes wide. "You brat, you didn't wipe your mouth now my chest is all greasy!"
"Hehe, forgot, couldn't help it." I scratched my head, laughing.
That's payback for pinching my ear call it even!
"Mom, are you really going to wear this tomorrow?" I asked, a little uneasy.
The qipao's slit went up to her waist if she wore this at the village wedding, the men would stare for sure!
It was one thing to joke about a kink, but for Mother to wear this in public... I was nervous.
Mother squinted at me, lips pursed. "What? Isn't this what you wanted?"
"Eh? I was just joking!" I slapped my forehead. "And who calls their own son a brat..."
"Hmph, I say you are." She pinched my cheek. "Not happy?"
"Ow, ow, ow!" I yelped, playing along.
She didn't pinch hard her anger had faded.
"Mom, I reached the Fate-Knowing Realm!" I boasted, chest out.
"Really? My son is amazing!" she cheered, clapping as if for a child, then calmed and shot me a look. "Old Hao already told me."
"Oh..." I pouted, a little disappointed. "Now we can go to the Longevity Sect with Old Hao, I can protect you!"
Mother paused, looked at me in the mirror, her voice calm. "Old Hao left?"
"Yeah, he just left your room." I nodded, puzzled.
"Really gone?" she pressed, her tone odd.
"Yeah, said he's going to prepare for your wedding tomorrow." I scratched my head, sensing something off.
"Oh..." she replied, gaze distant.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I frowned.
"Nothing." She smiled, but it seemed forced.
"I'm not stupid..." I muttered, sensing something unsaid.
"You are." She turned, eyes narrowed. "If we go to the Longevity Sect, can you protect everyone? Or will you just stick by me, leaving the others here, never leaving my side?"
Her words were a cold shock I realized she was right. I thought the Fate-Knowing Realm made me invincible, but could I really protect everyone?
If I never left her side, wouldn't that be a cage?
"Besides... Old Hao doesn't want you to go yet," she added lightly.
"Huh? Why?" I thought of Old Hao's sad look. "Why didn't he say so?"
"Dunno, he didn't say, I didn't ask. Maybe when things are stable, he'll tell you." She shrugged, adjusted her qipao and stockings.
I'd thought Mother would be happy, but apparently not.
I sighed, half helpless, half relieved. "Looks like we'll just stay at the sect for now."
"We've only been out twice since coming here."
"Hmm? So... you mean...?" I probed.
"Of course, go out and have fun!" Mother grinned mischievously.
I really couldn't guess what she was thinking.
But then her expression turned serious. "But before we go, there's something to do."
Seeing her so serious, I ran through everything in my mind, but couldn't figure out what she meant wasn't the wedding tomorrow?
"Isn't it just your wedding tomorrow? What else?"
Mother's face was stern, but her faint smile and slightly raised brow made me uneasy...
She raised her hand, looking at the green ring on her finger, and said softly:
"...Tonight... you'll know."
