When Daniel reads the passage from his memoir out, and finally has the true context for thr speech, it's devastating in the best possible way. All through both seasons I loved the developing friendship between Louis and Daniel, but the fact that Louis tried to kill Daniel in the 70s was a slightly awkward foundation. To find out that Louis later saved Daniel, not only in the moment, but over and over again for decades to come was so moving. It’s only slightly behind the finale revelation in terms of satisfaction for me, and as I suspected that the finale revelation was coming but had NO IDEA about this (it’s not in the books) it had the bonus of being wonderfully unexpected.
