This is just a commentary to your question. Think of it from Avon’s perspective. He got Stringer saying Dee ain’t strong enough to do 20, then Avon seeing Dee high… Avon is a chess player and Dee is a pawn. A soldier. Dee can be mad about how the business is done. He gets the privilege to be in his feelings or as Avon says “He cold to me right now”, but if he disregarding me to the point that he don’t listen - well then Avon can tell Brianna “I did my best” but the boy ain’t listen. Avon is absolved, Stringer is placated, and the Dee problem is solved by proxy. For Avon this was a loyalty test for Dee or a problem solved for the crew. It actually demonstrates Avon’s genius and his unwillingness to be the finger that pulls the trigger on family. Avon woulda been hurt if Dee died from the package because Dee is family, but he would have been able move past it because Dee woulda proven he’s the weak link. Every thinks Stringer is the genius of the 2. String is Hamilton to Avon’s George Washington. It’s a reason Avon is the boss.

Just egos pushing and prodding one another until one gives. The one true way anything gets achieved in this city is if the biggest asshole in the room pushes hard enough.
