Hannibal 1x1 | Full Length Reaction

Comments

Appreciate you coming over here. And yes watching both shows where the exact reason I started watching more light-hearted sitcoms as well 😂😂 I had to

Franklin

long term fan of the Hannibal movies and a more recent fan of the show—I've caught the last handful of your reactions to this over on YT and absolutely had to come over to see the full versions and watch you go down the rabbit hole from the beginning. you mentioned in this you were also watching The Haunting of Hill House, and I gotta say you are a BRAVE dude watching both of these at the same time lmaoo

mercury

Just joined for this loll i love this show, can't wait to see what you think of it !!

Julien

🌻 I’m so excited for this! What a brilliant first episode. I watched your reaction to the first IWTV episode and LOVED it - I knew I had to join your Patreon! I was waiting for a little bit, deciding when to join if I had enough money at the time etc. but when I saw this pop up on YouTube, I went STRAIGHT to Patreon and joined it! Hannibal is one of my favourite tv shows EVER, and not too many people react to it Now I can watch both on here! I really enjoy your reactions, you pay very close attention to all of the small details and appreciate the effort that gets put into the creation of these shows. So excited to watch more with you!

Freya Murphy

Loving your first reactions & insights on this very first episode. The show starts off with a procedural feel in the early episodes, but will transform into a unique dark creature, much like the vision of the Stag that Will saw. Yes, there were indeed feathers, good catch!

CatsEyeWatching

Watched the first episode now and boiii, it's good to be back with this show! This is my all-time favourite show. The cinematography is superb from beginning to end, the dialogue so delicious and the dynamic between all the characters is just brilliantly written. You made a good observation here with saying how Will and Hannibal are almost like a mirror to each other. I won't say much more since it would be spoilers but just remember this piece of dialog from this first episode and have it in the back of your mind: "I don't find you that interesting." "You will."

Ramona

🌸 so glad you've enjoyed!! I've loved the Hannibal show for over a decade now!! It's so rich and really rewards observant viewers.

Erin Rose

I’ve never watched this show before, so am experiencing it with you. The ending, when Hannibal is in the girls hospital room, and we are wondering if he’s being genuine with his caring or not… it came to me that if she were Clarice, and he’d saved her, he’d be there. She has no mother or father now, he’s doing a very caring thing.

Christina H

I hope you enjoy it

Franklin

''Hello?'' is my universal term for "what the fuck is going on here"😆 so I'm glad you like it. Wow you're so lucky. I'm happy you got to meet them. I didn't even notice I was him on your profile picture. Super awesome

Franklin

🌸🌸

Franklin

How could I not have known that you would have heard this beautiful voice this beautiful spirit before I ever said anything. It’s good to know that we have great taste in music, musicians, and their souls. I was so grateful he was there for you and your time of need, he has been there now my time of need. The end of life is very solitary Road and sometimes sentiment helps be a placeholder where they cannot. Thank you for being you. Many blessings as always.

Laura Thate

Dear Laura, I absolutely love Jacob. His music got me through some times back when I was in college. His voice is so soothing and so reassuring. Slow Up is one of my favorite songs from him, and from our conversations, I definitely know why that song resonated with you the way it did. Every time this man opens his mouth, he makes sense. His music is healing. My favorite song by him is "Unknown (to You)"

Franklin

I don't have much more to say because I feel like I said most of what I could in replies to comments without going into spoiler territory. However, every time you said "HELLO?!" had me cackling. Also, the face you made when Will was eating the protein scramble! 😦😂🤌🏻🌷 P.S. I was able to meet Mads and Hugh over the summer and they were both really nice. My profile picture reflects my admiration for Will Graham and Hugh Dancy. It's my favorite series of all time. You will love it!

Holly Robertson

The show is kinda a standalone thing. Bryan Fuller (the show's creator) has said that since they did not have the rights to Silence of the Lambs, the show was unable to use any characters introduced in Silence. All the characters in the show are introduced in Red Dragon, which is the first novel. And honestly, as bad as that feels initially, I think the show is made better for it. It allowed them to go to places that certain constraints wouldn't have allowed them to explore. If you pay attention to the title card of this episode it says "based on Red Dragon by Thomas Harris" or something to that effect. I think it may actually be at the beginning of every episode. With all that being said, I do feel like the essence of each character is kept the same, similarly with how the writers of IWTV have done.

Holly Robertson

Right? I nearly died when I saw that lineup! 😱

Holly Robertson

Dear Franklin, I was listening to a beautiful song from a Nigerian singer today. His name is Jacob Banks. I don’t know if you know him. And if you do, I’m pleased. This was the song I was listening to, trying to sooth my spirit as a great grandmother, knowing all that I’ve seen and what is to come, I hope you’ll understand why I find it so beautiful. I didn’t know where else to put it in the comments. https://youtu.be/LsgNG-L6aw4?si=OU3EDvyF7WLIXfnQ

Laura Thate

Can't wait!! Gonna start on it as soon as I'm back from vacation 😁

Ramona

100%

sparkle

Thank you keira😊

Franklin

Can I just say seeing your Naruto profile picture always hits me with a big boost of nostalgia. That is a fact. Choose the perfect time. I'm very worried about Haunting of Hill House because it looks scary AF. But we will see when we get there

Franklin

I was thinking about that and the meaning after I finished watching the episode. Thanks for elaborating

Franklin

I mean, I can watch ahead if you want my 12-page essays but I thought maybe they were getting a bit much 😂 I will have one ready for IWTV S2E8 though, never fear! Yes, I'm here for all the hand-holding and keeping each other strong energy. Also for major side eye every time Hannibal does something shady, which I expect to happen a lot.

Maria

Heck yeah. Mads Mickelson is just amazing That's good to know. I want to worry about the horror too much

Franklin

Yeah I feel you. They were leading us to think that Yo when he dropped that tissue on the table. I thought Hannibal was going to smack the shit out of him lol. Disgusted is right

Franklin

Thank you. Freaking love it

Franklin

That was oddly comforting and terrifying at the same time. Thank you kimia

Franklin

After reading your first paragraph I was like ''damn Maria won't have 12-page essays for me to enjoy in this show as she did for IWTV"🤣 ayy you and I have the same when it comes to the horror genre. Hopefully we can keep each other going strong😭 and yes if cannibalism doesn't give you the heebie-jeebies, there's something wrong

Franklin

Absolutely Mary. I'm pumped

Franklin

Yes another TV show that we can both enjoy together for the first time. If we're keeping score, this is the fourth TV show you have tagged along and watched for the first time. This is going to be awesome. And definitely I know this TV show will bring that appreciation of the movies. And three Hopkins was extraordinary

Franklin

I believe that brother. Can't wait

Franklin

The whole show feels like a piece of art. 😭 yes I absolutely love will. ohh yeah Clarice's Mentor into FBI. Glad to see it. Yeah I have a feeling this is going to be a fun one

Franklin

I appreciate you. I love that a lot of interview to vampire fans also love this show/ Your English was smooth my man

Franklin

Very true that makes so much sense

Franklin

Let's get it

Franklin

Another good series that I have yet to watch! Excellent.

mark

I also feel as if Hannibal is the copycat: he was so interested in how they figured that. Also, the way the camera focused on that last bite of sausage led me to believe somthing was up - or they are playing with us.

mark

One thing I will say for sure is you don't have to worry about your prior knowledge affecting your viewing of the show. The creators of Hannibal knew very well every person watching this series would have prior knowledge and opinions of Hannibal and his actions, and actively "play" with their audience and their expectations. So, you reading scenes with Hannibal in a completely different light from the characters is not only intentional, but anticipated.

Noct

Maaaaannnnnn!!! I need to respect your will and spoiler free! Just imagine me biting my nails wanting to speak more kkkkkk …. I hope you enjoy the show!!! I already know what to binge after last episode of “interview with the vampire “ Ps: sorry about any misspelling , I am from Brazil. English is definitely not my first language lol

Sergio Luiz

🌷what you mentioned is one of the reasons I love this show so much: the cinematography is stunning. The cooking scenes and food presentation is truly artistic, all while the viewer knows it's cannibalism. Disturbed AF but beautiful nonetheless. I love the actors in the show - especially Hugh Dancy playing Will. He's so emotive, and I find myself empathizing with him. The Jack Crawford (Fishburn) was also in The Silence of the Lambs. He was Clarisse's mentor. Looking forward to this journey with you.

Melissa

This show is so insane. It's one of those series that stays with you forever after watching it. You're in for a hell of a ride, my friend.

Noct

Franklin your rockstar! I’ve never seen this series. I have however, seen all three of the Hannibal trilogy. Period. No spoiler will come from me! However, if you had watched red Dragon and Hannibal, you would understand lectors character, and how he moves and why he does what he does. I love the fact that you’re exploring this in a free association way but because you missing the other two, you don’t have a complete understanding of the Hannibal character. I don’t believe this will be a disadvantage for the series itself or your natural reactions to them. But I suggest that, you do your best to not return to the original silence of the lambs memories because it was only one part of a great series that crescendo in such magnificence that would only highlight your experience with this now ongoing series. I am so happy to join you on this journey. This is new to me so I am very excited to see the quality of this series and how it matches up to the trilogy of Hannibal Lecter movies. I’m looking for the eloquence of The experience of the trilogy that has been sustained by the brilliant acting of Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest actors of my generation and his depiction of Hannibal Lecter was magnificent from start to end. I am so hopeful that this series will take me to places that I have not been within that trilogy so I can feel a renewed respect for the movie industry. Blessed to be fresh eyed and excited alongside you.

Laura Thate

I really loved episode 1. The dialog and the way it was filmed. I think this is going to be a great ride. 😉

Mary E Crum

🌻 I actually only just started watching this show with you and Taco. So I'm going in blind which is a nice contrast to "Interview with the Vampire" because I do not have a lot of pre-formed opinions besides what I know of Hannibal Lecter from pop-culture references. I'm not that bad with horror or thrillers usually as in I don't get scared easily but horror really is not my particular cup of tea and I have been avoiding this show since it came out for fear of nightmares because something about cannibalism just gives me the hibbie-jibbies. So we will see how long I'm gonna be able to stick around for but so far it is intriguing. I definitely think that they wanted us to suspect Hannibal, only to do a 180 and be like, nahh but then again I suspect that that Hannibal might be the copycat. Simply because we did see the lungs afterwards - and maybe I'm just thinking too simply or straightforward but that is my gut instinct at the moment. And I also suspect that Hannibal did feed Will people during that breakfast scene, which feels like such a violation and just really, really wrong.

Maria

there are different kinds of horror, body horror vs psychological horror, ect, but if you are fine with hannibals horror, i dare to assume you'll be fine with 80% of flanagan horror. i personally find hannibal being more "horrific" , but of course art is subjective. eitherway, don't let it get too much in your head, it's where half the horror happens for both series 😉

Kimia

so glad you like it!!

sparkle

oh they definitely wanted us to think hannibal was the killer. bc why would they cut from the crime scene to hannibal eating 😭😭 the editing in this show is wayyyy too funny also hannibal’s micro expressions during his appointement with franklyn, this man was bored and disgusted. his face when franklyn dropped that snotty tissue onto the glass table?? actual comedy mads is just too good

tiph

I’m not sure if this show is the same continuity considering how the books come into play in the show.

Janeka Rector

God this show is beautiful. The acting from everyone is stellar but Mads Mikkelsen is so perfect as Hannibal. This show does have its horror elements but I'm also someone who doesn't like horror and it was never too much for me. So ready for this journey.

Dannielle

i love this reaction! i’m super excited to see you watch this show. a note about something i think you misunderstood (which isn’t explained or mentioned again in the future at all, so i don’t think this counts as a spoiler but is an interesting point): when hannibal calls will “the mongoose [he wants] under the house when the snake slithers by”, that references the fact that mongooses are known to prey on snakes, and there is a reference in christianity to mongooses defending the house from snakes. hannibal sees will as something stronger than/essentially opposite from the “fragile teacup” he thinks jack sees him as.

des williams

OMG,,,,,, iwtv, hannibal, ANDDDDD you’re gonna start the haunting of hill house??!?!,,!? I picked the most perfect time to become a patreon frrrr! I loved this 💐

kiwimangle

Loving your commentary!!! I’m not sure if you knew, and I don’t think this counts as a spoiler, but this show is a prequel to silence of the lambs! Both are based on the novels by author Thomas Harris.
