I feel like Nate’s issue really boils down to him believing (consciously or not) that everyone in the world falls into one of 2 categories: bully or bullied. He spent so much time being a target that when it stops he feels like the only way to operate is to flip to the other end of the spectrum and become the bully. He can’t quite grasp yet that no one has to be the bully and that lifting someone up doesn’t mean someone else gets put down. Everyone has their own journey to go on and their own lessons to learn.

2024-07-09 16:17:11 +0000 UTCI wonder if he picked on Colin because in the first season Colin and Isaac harrassed and bullied Nate. But saying that, since the punch to the face by Roy, Colin got his act together. Both Will and Colin aren't these big imposing guys, and also he knows he can hurt their feelings I think to make himself feel better about himself. Telling Colin he isn't special is really a f-ing lie because in season one while they were still in the premier league, Colin was a starter for a premier league team. I just get all protective over the bullied characters, like Nate and Sam in season one. Now Colin and Will.

And I also love the ensemble cast - even the new characters (like Jan Maas) just fit right into the group exactly the way a new coworker finds their fit in the office.

2024-07-05 23:26:57 +0000 UTCThese characters are fire. Totally agree on your analysis of the "side" characters. Everyone feels real, they aren't just there to push the plot or fill space. Even the most tertiary characters (ex. "Laughing" Liam) feel like they have their own stories despite having very little screen time.

2024-07-05 08:19:10 +0000 UTCFrom the little we know about his couples therapy sessions, they seemed to have been biased. If I remember correctly, Michelle started seeing the therapist on her own & then Ted joined in, which isn’t the recommended way to do things. So, I get why he’s so angry & walled off. It’s almost a sigh of relief when Ted finally sits down with Sharon & is actually ready to start. I love Sharon’s patience through his whole process. Fun fact - The session may only last 50 mins, but the other 10 mins is used for notes, charting the session, and misc. other tasks. Oh, Nate. He started as the lowest guy on the totem pole back in season 1. Now he’s a coach, and as you say - Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Not only that, this episode starts off by showing how dismissively his father treats him. No wonder the guy has the self-esteem of an ant, to the point that he chose to spit on his own reflection to hype himself up. You would hope that he’d have more empathy for people that are where he used to be, but he seems to still be in a place of hurt & is trying to distance himself from the Old Nate. Still not an excuse to abuse Will & Colin 😔
