This episode is probably my favourite, even if they are all so very very good. ❤️

2024-07-12 23:37:50 +0000 UTCthe last paragraph made me laugh out loud. He sounds like a great guy. much respect. You were bored so he gave you a couple of Charlie horses to keep you active🤣🤣 I love that most people honored the rule of not targeting medics and I can see how some will see that as a strategic advantage to Target the medic. Kind of like cutting supply lines. Just brutal. Thanks for sharing these stories🧡

2024-07-12 23:37:05 +0000 UTCThe medic put his hand in the snow so he could see the red blood flow at the tip of his fingers to make sure he didn’t have frostbite. It’s something we Alaskans do if we happen to lose our gloves or get wet in the winter while out hunting.

2024-07-03 01:58:51 +0000 UTCDuring ww2, medics were technically non combatants. That's why they wear the armband and don't carry a weapon. To purposefully target and kill a medic was a war crime I believe. The Germans followed this for the most part. The Japanese often didn't. You were an enemy and they were going to kill you. Nowadays when we're fighting enemies like terrorist groups that don't abide by the rules of the geneva convention, combat medics are armed since they would actually specifically target medics. On my deployment to Iraq, I had a lot of respect for the medics that were attached to our company. We had some days where we didn't have to do a ton. You'd get to sit out a patrol now and then because we didn't need the whole platoon to go out every time so you'd get some down time. Not our medic though. Every time our platoon went out, he was with them. That guy had more time outside the wire than most other people in the platoon. I was often manning the machine gun turret on the humvee so I'd be standing up and he'd be in the back seat of the humvee right next to Mt legs. I'd always yell down to him "hey I'm bored! Why don't you just stick one of those shots of morphine in my leg?" He never did, he did however punch me in the back of my leg to give me a Charlie horse a few times. 😆
