However, prefecture laws (think counties/cities if you are USA) override that and are almost universally and have been so for a long time, at the age of 18.

2023-07-11 17:18:01 +0000 UTCI just wanted to say that this epsiode made me feel a little uneasy as well, but I did take the historical context view as Matthew mentioned. I would also add that we need to take into account the cultural context for the writer. Japan's age of consent when this story was written and all these shows aired was still 13, it recently (June 17th 2023) went to 16. What is disconserning to us, may not be in the culture that the writer is from.

Pedophilia is a big problem in our communities. Especially in the anime community as well. And I feel addressing the issues will help people see why it’s a big problem and destroy the stigma behind having these kinds of preventive conversations in general. Same as conversations around consent, rape culture, etc Again having this conversation, so that younger people around can be more aware and better protect themselves🙏🏾

Your concern was younger viewers who didn't have the life exprience to process a kinda complex story involving the age stuff. Very respectable of you.

A lot of people see these videos and see topics like this. Some people don’t have the critical thinking skills to analyze this topic. They’re also young impressionable people out there that need to hear that these kinds of relationships are not okay. I was so wrapped in it, that I didn’t even realize that Violet smiled at the end of this episode🥹💜

Marriage age differences were waaay different and socially acceptable at the time. Not saying you shouldn't have unease, we've evolved past that as a society so it should be uncomfortable.
