The photo only had to be purified by the bad wizard because the curse was from the bad wizard but she didn't want to purify for Gyeun-u. Therefore, the only solution was burn the photos.

First, the evil wizard had been hired by his family since he was a child to cast a spell to remove his bad luck. Gyeun-u didn't understand spell, so he only knew the evil wizard might be doing something bad, but he didn't know the specific purpose of the spell he was performing, and therefore, he didn't realize the evil wizard was cursing him. Second, Gyeun-u wanted the evil wizard to purify his grandmother's photo. He wanted to keep the photo instead of burning it, so he had no choice but to follow the evil wizard's instructions, fearing that the photo of his grandmother would be irrecoverable.
