The Sword of the Winter Rose - Chapter I

I enjoyed the intro. Everyone has clued into the fact that he looks like a Stark, which is a nice touch. Which isn’t that big of an issue, there are a lot of Starks floating around. Artos Stark has descendants and maybe he, his kids, or even some other Stark has a bastard or several running around. Though I’d think having a direwolf for a companion would have clinched the deal and elevated Jon’s status.

Yea but what does he need to get out an do? Surely the main priority for jon now would be keeping his family alive an preventing the war from occurring so they can fight the night king? So In my opinion hes possibly in the best place he could be.

enjoying the start, only thing I find odd is that they trust him so quickly - in 1 day and a quick talk they allow him to become a sword sword for one of the lord paramount's children seemed too ridiculous. BUT I can ignore that and assume it is to save story time perhaps, even just a few paragraphs about him settling in and getting to know them all would have made it smoother and more believable, anyway looking forward to the story as you wrote my all time favourite fan fiction so I trust your decisions!

I'm curious where this will go. It feels like any actions Jon could take, or might take, will be limited by the fact that he is a guard for Lyanna. He can't go off and just do things. Or that's what I think.

Training weapons can be lethal, they’re heavier than normal swords and even if they’re not sharp a solid piece of steel hitting you can break bones. Leather armour, as the commentator above said isn’t a real thing worn during the medieval period, but a padded gambeson and a padded cap would’ve been worn as a minimum safety requirement. It’s not a video game where the armour slows you down to balance the mechanics, all medieval armour is the result of centuries of innovation, they wouldn’t have worn the stuff if it was impractical. Anyway it was a drunk nitpick, the writing was good lmao. It wasn’t a big deal, the story is fiction and not historical.

In a practice situation what's the benefit of armour? It might easily slow him down (even if only a bit) for a feeble trade off of having slightly smaller bruises if he got hit, which he didnt plan to in the first place. Sure, if he goes to real battle without any armour thats ridiculous, but here I dont find it that bad

They said leather armour which did not exist as such. So it depends if he meant gambeson or brigandine. I guess gambeson would not slow you down that much its pretty light but brigandine definitely would...

This story has me gassed up. The description of the sword fight was done really well, considering I've only ever read your magical duels. I feel you've done a gd job so far capturing TV Jon so far.
