I definitely prefer the simpler take that Dumbledore is hesitant to confront him because they were close, because they were friends, because they were lovers, because they shared the same dreams, and so on. That he just doesn't want to fight Grindelwald, but feels like he's going to have to, and is struggling with that. It's very human. ... I don't think something like a blood pact was ever necessary.
