Heated Rivalry Episode 2 FULL Reaction!

Comments

I fully understand that you feel uncomfortable reacting to sex scenes. I’m not shy and I’m generally quite comfortable talking about sex, but I honestly don’t know how I would feel if I had to film myself reacting to them either. That said, your discomfort doesn’t mean these scenes are unnecessary or meaningless. On the contrary, I strongly believe that portraying adult relationships without showing sex is rooted in moral hypocrisy. Sex is part of life, part of intimacy, part of how people connect, love, and sometimes hurt each other. Erasing it from stories doesn’t make them more “respectable” or mature; it makes them incomplete and naive. Our collective discomfort with sex is not neutral: it’s political. The way society censors, sanitizes, or avoids sex has real consequences in everyday life. It fuels shame, ignorance, and control over bodies, especially women’s and queer bodies. When people can’t talk openly about sex, it becomes easier to regulate bodies, desires, and norms, and harder to name, question, and resist abuse, inequality, or oppression. What I loved in this episode first sex scene was how much Ilya kept asking Shane if he was “ok”, normalizing consent and showing that consent is not something given once at the beginning, but something that needs to be checked throughout sex. The same happens in the last episode, when Ilya tells Shane that it’s okay for him to be scared. Showing this on television really matters. I just wish it had been done long before 2025.

that’s totally ok, but I might be feeling awkward and shy while watching the sex scenes that’s why I say they’re unnecessary, because they feel real lol so it’s just how i’m perceiving it. But yes it does differentiate between their characters and personalities so I understand that for sure

It's a shame you seem unable to fully appreciate the depth of these characters and their relationships because you don't really appreciate how the sex plays a role in the storytelling. The sex scenes are incredibly important to who Shane and Ilya are and how their relationship evolves. A scene being graphic doesn't equal gratuitous or unnecessary. Yes, the intent is sexual, but its not just "to get off too". You're welcome to your opinion, but sex is something this show respects and WANTS depicted as important for the characters. Out of 40 minute episode, there were only 2 sex scenes. Their first time was so drawn out because it was their first time and it was supposed to be romantic and more real. Contrasted with the final scene where everything is a lot quicker and more intense, but their emotional gap is even greater. You definitely don't have to feel like you have to react to the scenes in a certain way. I've seen people who obviously love it. But even people who don't enjoy the scenes at least watch them to see what we learn about the characters through them. I 'd recommend continuing the show anyways because I love it and wanna see your reactions, but also there's actually less focus on the sex when there's emotional progress. And there's only 6 episodes in this first season (Season 2 was already greenlit). But if you're not entertained or engaged with the characters regardless, it might not be for you. Because the show is about THEM. The whole plot is their relationship with each other and the people around them and how their sexualities affect their family dynamics and career. Also by 2014, it's only been 6 years since we first met these characters and they were only like 18 in that first episode. Most people don't change much visually in their 20s and 30s. Sorry if this seems mean, I truly enjoy your reactions. I just had a lot of thoughts in response to your statements.
