So Wonka is more bright, naive, young and just getting started out. I enjoyed the journey they tried to show with a positive outlook with his mom's story and the ending in which he envisions his factory and continues to start work with the Oompa Loompas and all the people who helped him get back to their life instead of the whole betrayel sequence.
The 3 villains aka competitors were so well written in terms of their looks, how they act and sound. It'd exactly how a Roald Dahl character would be.
The director of this movie is the same as Paddington and if you haven't watched that. It's a treat.
This was my first Timothee Chalamat film in theatres and knowing the story and Easter eggs I enjoyed it. His voice actually suited the bright character and yes him crying makes us feel more.
Thanks for this one too.

Wonka was a treat to watch!
I've read the book by Roald Dahl as well. His characters are always over to top and there's magic in some sense all the time.
The book was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory focusing more on Charlie and when Wonka is more successful and has his factory.
The book never explores Wonka's past just the fact that he brought the Oompa Loompa's to work for him after being betrayed by his workers that were bribed by his competitors to steal his ideas.
So it's understandable how much of the story they had to make up , I love Hugh Grant as the Oompa Loompa's they look so much like the original design of Gene Wilder's movie.
The one in Johnny Depp's version were the worst.
