She pulls some real villain moves throughout. Not answering the Brenda call in route to hospital / huffing his jacket at the nurse desk. Is her brain bleeding?

2023-10-01 21:51:42 +0000 UTCThis episode amazes me in how well it mirrors episode 1 season 1 with the death of Nathaniel Sr. The family gathers at the hospital in that one too but (if you remember) Claire has just smoked meth - but honestly freaks out in very similar ways as she does here. We actually see some teen Claire outbursts even though she’s 20 something now and in pantyhose. In the first episode Brenda and Nate just “met” at the airport and SHE is the outsider at the hospital in the same way Ted and Maggie are here. There’s more but I’m talking too much. Oh - but to clarify the “step brother” comments from Maggie - she’s George’s daughter so that’s how she met Nate in the first place.

I remember how completely shocked I was when I saw it for the first time. And yeah, you're in this place of hating Nate for what he did and what he's doing to Brenda, but death is so final. That's how he went out and he'll never get to undo it. Also, I loved how you pointed out that it was birds and the ocean on the TV, both of which have been symbols of death in this show/season.
