Thank you, Imad! There are so many notes to give you on this, but suffice it to say that Cabaret was a very important musical play on Broadway in the late 1960's and has been revived on stage many times. This 1972 film adaptation is one of the best Broadway to Hollywood adaptations of a musical ever, in my opinion. It won a total of 10 Oscars that year, including Best Actress for Liza, Best Supporting Actor for Joel Grey, and Best Director for Bob Fosse, whose choreography is legendary. As for Liza, since you indicated you didn't know her, she is Hollywood royalty. Her mother was Judy Garland, one of the biggest stars in the Golden Age of Hollywood, for her acting and most of all for her voice. She is also perhaps the biggest gay icon of the 20th Century in the U.S. Her father was Vincente Minnelli, a big Hollywood director. But Cabaret is what made Liza a star and a gay icon in her own right. Her talents in singing, dancing and acting were amazing. She is still alive, though in her old age has sadly become somewhat of a parody of herself. But there are a few favorite performances of hers that show her amazing talents--I'd be happy to give you links if you'd like. As for Cabaret, it is brilliant and can serve as a warning of what a society's descent into fascism can look like--very applicable to many places in the world today, sad to say. Sorry to write so much! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed Cabaret!
