Azula would not be a very happy camper if Mai didn’t side with Azula. It would be a dangerous situation for everyone, including Tom-Tom. She was even smirking at her own brother’s face getting burned, so hurting Mai’s brother is possible. Ty Lee is a chi-blocker, so she’s dangerous to benders that rely on their bending to fight, as Katara. Mai and Ty Lee are more good friends with each other than their relationship with Azula. Unlike Azula, Mai actually knows why Ty Lee decided to run off to join the circus.
