Houston, we have an apple.
Added 2024-08-24 00:07:42 +0000 UTCI hope you guys got the gist.
In the following months, Apple will impose a dreadful additional tax upon all AppStore (iPhone) users that pay via the Patreon App (or even the apple pay, I don't have full details on the matter on their side), cornering creators to give up 30%+ of their earnings on your subscription or impose this burden into the supporters.
If you ever had to deal with taxes, whose methods vary depending on countries, you know that this math is complicated and that it will hurt heavily creators and Patrons, adding up those 30% in tax calculations screwing up prices big time, or borderline cutting the profitability of some content creators if they decide to absorb the tax.
I did my math here, and this could screw me up big time, so, I'll shield myself, not absorbing it, and propose a solution that works for everyone.
THE SOLUTION: Be sure you payment method is made via web browser - directly via payment processor or Credit Card, not via the Patreon App (iPhone) or Apple AppStore.
I believe that the app would still work on Patreon after that, but that depends of how greedy Apple is, and they're greedy as F, so, I would suggest you guys to move as fast as possible to web navigation and set the payment methods. Sometimes it would be necessary to uninstall the Patreon app to try that or even do it on a computer, considering some browsers open the app themselves.
Patreon is the victim here, with us creators and supporters, please don't blame them. Other companies are having the same problem, so, let's be patient and do out best to keep supporting them all and avoid paying this unfair tax at all costs.
Android or Web Browser users, nothing changes to you.
As always, thanks for your support. ❤

I agree with you, the hardware is overpriced, I'll never work on a Mac again or buy an iphone (Brazilian prices ...), but for those who can pay easily or managed to inherit one the interface is consistent and the average experience is addicting, so they will be hit by the change and would be resistant to change their phone, so, I'm just listing the easier solution.

2024-08-24 04:37:20 +0000 UTCdo you know what the best solution is? Just dont use apple. Done. I had one i phone in my life, about 20 years or so ago. Since than, i never touched another one of their products. You pay for a stupid logo and a name with that company, not for quality.
