VCs pulled out because they were impatient with the returns and money is still expensive to borrow, publishers bring in marketing infrastructure (less compelling a point for sure) but other capabilities that aid development. It’s a weird time for AAA but for AA and below I think there is still room for great publishers who don’t need huge returns for a game to be successful.
