The village came out to watch as the sending circle began to form. The High Priest grinned at Jevic and in a voice too low to be overheard, he said. “Just in case you can find your way back from the haunted forest, I have added a special gift to your sending” Before Jevic could ask what he meant, he was cast into the circle and vanished.
A green light flashed in the depths of the haunted forest. Jevic fell to the soil, trampled flat by so many others banished here before. Attempting to stand, Jevic felt odd, everything moved wrong, weight was in the wrong places. Jevic spotted a mirror, strangely placed among the trees and saw what the high priest had meant.
Jevic the maiden, truly banished from all that Jevic the man had once known.
