Alice was known as “that shy girl” who kept to herself. Between classes and during her free period, she could always be found sitting alone by the same window. She was a new student this year, having apparently just moved from another town. Teachers worried about her isolation but they had more troublesome students so they left her alone.
The boys had started to notice her though. Most were reluctant to approach the solitary girl and since she never talked, there wasn’t much of an opening to flirt, but Jared decided that today, he would go to her at her window and ask her out.
Alice saw Jared coming toward her and her heart raced. Not with excitement, but with fear. She flexed the muscles in her throat she would need to keep her voice feminine and lifted her right leg to obscure any possible tell-tale bulge under her skirt.
Last year, at her old school, she had been a Senior named Alan. After outing and bullying a trans student, Alan had been expelled. The student’s parents agreed not to press charges if Alan repeated Senior year as Alice and Alan’s parents agreed.
His mother replaced his wardrobe and started the hormones that day. She spent the summer as Alice to “get practice” and now attends a new school where she lives in constant fear of being outed and suffering the same bullying that Alan had inflicted.
Jared was here, he was asking her out. She had no idea what the safe answer would be. She wasn’t sure there was one.
