I call him Zapi and he lives in a primitive world I guess. I've been drawing this kind of simple dot eyes lately, do you think it looks odd or ok? Do you prefer more detailed eyes in general?

I also struggle with proportions and perspective, but only until way later do I notice that some things might not be quite like I intended. Like say here with the legs/paws being closer to the view, are they too big? Does it look alright? I never really know to be honest.

That sounds right about the eyes I think, I don't think I'm very good at actually thinking about things haha, I just kind of draw and then after I go "wait does that actually makes sense or even look right"? But yeah same thing with perspective and proportions, I keep tinkering with them even late into the process.

I think the eyes depends on the personality of the character. It always gave me the impression that smaller eyes or dot eyes fits characters that are more straitght forward in personality, while bigger/detailed eyes fits characters that are more emotional. in the end in depends on the artist vision though. As for the perspective. I can see what you mean. I have the same issues with perspective. It always gives me the impression that stuff is oversized when closer to the camera and it feels odd. Then I try to fix it and put the right proportions but then the perspective is gone XD. So if you ask me, I think you doing fine, if you reduce the size of the paws/legs in this case you may end up removing the perspective by accident. It's been always a really tricky thing to draw.

Yeah I definitely tend to overthink far too much... but I guess these days I try to overthink a bit less as far as something doesn't look seriously wrong. But then I think what if there's something seriously wrong but I'm just not seeing it... and the endless spiral begins haha. But thanks! It makes me happy to know you like some of those aspects!

Simplifying the eyes look good, and I think they compliment your style. For the perspective, honestly I think you're really good at doing paws/legs in perspective, it's one of those aspects I like about your art, and I look at it for inspiration! I think it's best not to overthink it and go with your gut intuition. The paws in this picture looks great in regards to the perspective!
