Zatanna inside story: The HAT

Today I'm here to share with small inside story about very crucial item on Zatanna photoshoot - The Hat. I want to call it "MacGuffin", but it will be not the fully correct term. I can't say it is the time, that drives the narrative, but became the start to this small erotic story. )
For Zatanna project we needed two versions of hat. The one that will be used as the part of costume and other as practical prop. Zatanna makes her hat huge and demonstrates "more impressive version" of "Rabbit in hat" magic trick.

I can't say, it was really hard to craft both. It was harder to come up on what material will be better to use and easily to transport. As you might remember we needed to go to other city, because there was better photoshoot location.

The Big one was made from linoleum (for tube part),  penoplex (for pent and top), rice glue, paper, spary and acrilic paint.
We cut the pent and top from penoplex. Then used paper and rice glue to make base for paint. Spray paint literally melts penoplex, so we needed to protect it.
We used spray paint to cover linoleum too, but didn't know it will not dry out and evetually lead to gluing, when rolled. Yes, I know, we are not so smart, hehe )
Why spary paint? Because it was faster and seemed good decision at the moment.
Why linoleum? It is durable, can be rolled and you might didn't know it, very often used by cosplayers to create armour. ) I once saw Dragon knight armour (Dota 2) made entirely from it!
In the end, when time came, our rolled tube was ruined and we needed to repaint it quickly in two hours before the shoot. This time we used acrilic paint and it was the right decision. Hardest moment was to find it fast and buy in city we are not that familiar with. Tao run around 6 shops nearby and eventually found what we needed at other part of the city. Who knew, when you need something, it is really hard to find, when you need it the most? )
At this moment, I was really grateful for having teammate who can handle most of critical situations, stay calm and act fast.
Hope we'll have big team in the future, who will help to create even greater projects. )

What do you think we made our Small hat of?
As main material we used foam and glue. Since creating cylinder hat (or top hat?) is a very complex feat (ofcourse if you are not creating them for sale), we decided to use very flexible material, easy for adjustment. And it is very light and durable. Interestingly, hat survived bending, squishing and tossing during transportation and photoshoot.

It was and is interesting project to work on. It took us a lot of time and resources to produce this project. When I look back on it, I'm a bit amased that we managed to go throu every obstacle. Good feel )
