Upcoming Subscription & Billing Changes
Added 2024-08-12 14:19:17 +0000 UTCHowdy folks,
Patreon's just announced that starting in November, all creators on the platform are going to have to change their subscription model -- rather than being charged on the 1st of the month, you'll be charged on the anniversary of when you joined. This appears to be a mandate from Apple due to the existence of Patreon's iOS app, and the service has decided this must flow down hill to the rest of us even though we don't have an iOS version of the game and would be perfectly happy just being delisted from their dumb app. ¯(ツ)/¯
This should not affect existing subscriptions (you'll continue to be charged on the 1st), just new ones, but this service is at best incompetent so I encourage you to keep an eye on your receipts during the transition. I've avoided changing over to the new model for years now because I don't trust Patreon to handle it correctly, but the choice is being slapped out of my hands now.
What WILL change for (presumably) some of you is that, starting in November, any subscription made through Patreon's iOS app will go up in cost by 30%. Not a subscription made on the iOS through the web browser, mind you, just those made through Patreon's stupid app. If you made your sub through Patreon's iOS app, I strongly encourage you to cancel it before November and renew it through literally any other means (or head on over to our SubscribeStar) so we can avoid Apple yoinking money out of peoples' pockets.
Apologies in advance for any hassle Patreon's newest big-brain play here causes anyone. I'll be yelling at management in the meantime.

2024-08-26 00:14:40 +0000 UTCIf you're playing on browser via backer builds on Fenoxo.com, you won't be able to access those anymore -- unfortunately SubStar doesn't have the API to integrate onto the blog at this time. However, you CAN just continue your subscription on iPhone through the BROWSER PATREON WEBSITE rather than the iOS app. Same experience, same integration, just without the price hike.

2024-08-25 23:33:01 +0000 UTCYou may have already answered this question or mentioned it to someone else (sometimes I miss little things) but will all my game progress still be the same when I switch to subscribestar? I am on iPhone.

2024-08-13 18:46:34 +0000 UTCWe at my work have been feeling the Apple issue for almost a year and a half. Patreon held out a long time against Apple, as I can assure you Apple has been making them pay the costs for you for all that time.

2024-08-12 16:26:36 +0000 UTCThanks for the reply. I'm an android user, and if my memory serves me correctly, I first started using patreon and it's subscription via browser, so I guess I'm safe, Welp, guessing I'll till November to find out.

2024-08-12 15:58:04 +0000 UTCIf (and only if) you subscribed through the Patron iOS App, the price attached to all subscription tiers will increase by 30%. I can't say for sure if this will affect existing subs via the app or not, but it certainly will affect new ones made via the app. If you did NOT subscribe *specifically* through the Patreon iOS app -- say, you did so through your browser or on an android app -- there should be no change to your billing price. If you *did* subscribe through the iOS app and want to be sure to avoid any potential price hikes, I recommend unsubscribing near the end of this month and then just rejoining via the website (you can even use your browser on iOS!) any time after the 1st of next month.

2024-08-12 15:20:39 +0000 UTCQuestion about the app subscription bit, I'm a bit slow so please explain it to me. Are you saying that, due to app owners policy changes, beyond date of payment being fixed at 1st subscription date anniversary, are you saying that, those of us who subscribed to you via this app will be billed 30% extra? As in tax or something?
