New Patch: Changes Are A' Coming

A while ago, I gave Balak pretty much free reign to do a combat mechanics update, and he’s now delivered on the first of two major gameplay patches. Some of the devs and a group of backer volunteers have been rigorously testing Balak’s changes to date, and we’ve all agreed they’re a big enough game improvement to release into the wild. To go along with it, we’re also releasing the huge changelog of narrative tweaks I talked about a month or so ago, and bumping the game up to its 0.5 milestone.

Current saves work flawlessly with the new systems and narrative tweaks to the extent of our testing. Still, I’d highly recommend starting a new playthrough just to enjoy them all from the start!

Balak has asked me to pass along that he’ll try to read the comments on the post and in the forum and discord threads to answer what questions he can about his decisions.

There will almost certainly be weird edge-case bugs, and new/exciting ways you can break the game that we didn’t find. As always, please report issues on the bug report forum!

0.5.0 Patch Notes, Part 1: Combat Changes

0.5.0 Patch Notes, Part 2: Narrative Changes

Also New Content Just Because We Love You:

So, that’s a hefty package worth of changes! But what’s coming up next?

I’m currently working on the final encounter and bad-end for Etheryn’s quest to hunt down Queen Alissa. Berry’s 2nd quest is already in the code mines, and now that Mayternity is over with and these fat stack of coding is over with, I don’t think it’ll be too much longer before that’s released into the wild. An adorable new half-lupine cleric NPC, Drifa, is also almost ready to hit the game — and following that, a steady expansion to the Corrupted Lupines plotline.

My current plan is that, once RynQuest 2 and its followup character/sex content is done with (*internal and external screaming*), I’ll pivot back to Khor’minos and either write up Isadora as a proper NPC or do the next CaliseQuest (ie, the main story questline).

At some point in the future (not soon!) there’ll be a followup mechanical patch, taking into account feedback from this one, focused on item and power balance and addressing any issues this patch has brought up.

I disagree. It’s not like you’re “killing” most NPCs anyway. You’re attacking with physical damage (weapons) or mental damage (tease) to make the enemy collapse. I would assume tease damage would still do more damage if someone is weak to tease damage.

Foxfire

Hmmmmm, I guess that makes sense. Party Composition is much easier to manage and play around with if they both attack the same health bar. Brint + Quin for example, for the best physical (or one of the best) and the best tease damager in the game. Where normally it's much better to focus on one and try to brute-force your way though. Not to mention that it makes healing much easier to balance as it's only one health bar... yeah, I can understand the choice. It's a shame imo, but understandable nonethless.

Tempestfury

As for "It also steals the roleplay element of making enemies "too horny to keep fighting"" This is still a thing. If you defeat an enemy using mental damage types (ie, Teasing) you still get the defeat-by-horny text. What this patch has done is made it so that if you want to Tease, you don't have to do nothing BUT tease.

Savin

Quin could already do that, is the thing. The Lureling was always meant to be Teased down, and Quin is one of the best tease attackers in the game.

Savin

Managing two entirely unrelated Health bars made combat A) much more painful to balance and B) meant that certain characters were entirely pointless to the majority of players. Like, nobody wanted to use Quin unless they themselves ran a Lust-based party. Now he can contribute to every party.

Savin

Nope! This had all the intended changes in it.

Savin

Just to reinforce this: I tried the Patch out on my "new" character yesterday. Tried finishing the Winter Wolf Quest.. Quint almost one-shot the lureling with Lust Tag and a Crit on Mindsnap

Rico Döhler

I agree with this honestly. I don't like the idea of violence and teasing being the same thing. It's not just for the reason you mentioned, but because it takes away a bit of the dynamic involved with some of the bosses. Some are better against damage, others are better against lust. Knowing which is which and focusing your efforts appropritate is a very important part of the game. That distinction matters way less if Health and Lust use the same bar

Tempestfury

THis feels like a step backwards, because it removes an additional dimension to battles. Like, there is no distinction anymore, between showing an enemy your dick, and stabbing them, because teasing now somehow damages health. It also steals the roleplay element of making enemies "too horny to keep fighting" instead you could literally "kill" an enemy by being naked infront of them. Maybe it's better for balance, but its terrible for roleplay. Which is bad, considering this is an RPG about all the ways you can have sex with every living thing.

Rico Döhler

Will there be another patch, that affects early game content like this one, coming out soon. I dont want a make a new character now if one is coming soon.

Nythingale

So, why has Resolve been removed exactly?

Tempestfury

Alright, any chance of continuing after the MC has been knocked out but the party members are still up? Its kinda weird how they'll both be full health but because i just hit the dirt they let whatever is going to happen happen, even if the enemy is moments from K.O. ing themselves

Mors

I am mega hyped for Ryn´s quest xD

Johannes

Wsan's just started writing that; it's gonna be a minute before it's ready for code.

Savin

I would definitely love to see that happen. Brint/El's scene is one of my faves; I can only imagine Wsan'd do just as great a job with ladyBrint!

Savin

That is the PLAN. I would hate to have you progress a character's arc just to LOSE almost all of their scenes.

Savin

Resolve is the blue health bar that lusty attacks damaged. They all do damage to the red bar now.

Savin

I kinda hoped for a finish to Brienne's family quest but that's a big thing too. I'm not disappointed in this update at all.

samfish90212 .

Damn, good shit!

Thekorvu

Yes either a charmer or tank will be my first new playthrough because of this.

Solrane

Interesting definitely starting a new playthrough today. Thanks for all the hard work.

Solrane

Mallachs Balls that's a lot of new changes Time to not sleep playin for several days lol No resolve is gonna be the most interesting one I feel

Kiyosu

Didn´t even know Brint could knock up Elthara xD but can we get a threesome with Brienne and Elthara? pretty please

Johannes

Wow, that's a lot of work done. Congratulations! I've only been supporting the development for about a year an a half, but even in that time I've seen it evolve considerably. This has definitely got to be my favourite RPG of all time. Keep up the good work everyone.

Fable Wolfe

Heres hoping maybe there will also be a choice to keep it for kink purposes and a option to take it off or put it on Kinda like with brienne's piercings

Ace Ventura

By the gods are we going to get to uncage Ryn? I honestly thought that was going to be waaaay later in the story so count me as HYPED

Feliks Tepes

And good to know the winter city actually has a name. I personally just called it the boreal valley (yes the one from dark souls).

Kevin Lansford

Fucking awesome can't wait to give this version a try, tho resolve being removed I'm a bit iffy on, hopefully in a future patch it can be improved, renamed, and implemented back.

Ace Ventura

I am happy to hear about this. Resolve in particular. It's really the reason why I chose to Respec my charmer to lean almost completely into willpower, making him into some black mage with support abilities. It just made more sense to have all three members of my party do fire, storm, necrotic, or what have you, rather than do resolve damage.

Kevin Lansford

Wait...so resolve, the mental status before going horny, is removed from the game?
