Yellow cat and Shadow imp

I've been warned about risk of copyright claim and that's why i am taking these precautions. Better safe than sorry!

Anytime an artist takes money for fan art commissions, they're technically breaking the law. But larger companies usually can't be bothered to go after them because because it's not worth the resources or negative PR.

It's all too easy for any rando to make a claim and then pose as somebody representing the company. It's a fault of the slipshod reporting system present on most websites. Secondly, you can easily get around it by just not using their actual canon names. I know plenty of artists here on patreon who make fanart of Nintendo characters and get around it by using "pseudonyms" for the characters (e.g. Samus = Sammy, Peach = Patch, Rosalina = Rosafina, etc.) Once you switch up the name, the censors don't catch it because people are searching for the canon names, not the pseudonyms.

2022-07-27 01:32:20 +0000 UTCI don't even think the claims that have happened in the past were actually from Nintendo. It's pretty easy to fake a claim when nobody checks if it's real. And places like Fanbox have never had any problems even considering they are in the same country as Nintendo. They even run official pokemon contests... In any case it's better to be safe.
