I guess you could justify it by saying maybe there are different dialects of Ancient, or perhaps how we have multiple languages on Earth now, maybe the Ancients did back then too & it wasn't just one set language. Also, language changes over the years, Eli would be more familiar with the older version of the Ancient language, I guess "ancient" Ancient. Another way to explain it is maybe at the time of Destiny being launched Novus was the word for new but by the time the repository of knowledge was made it evolved into Nova Just a few ways it could get explained off in Universe

2x17: A bit of a nitpick ...They named the planet "Novus" (shortened from Novus Mundus meaning New World) ...They claimed "Novus" was the Ancient word for "new" During the SG-1 Season 2 episode The Fifth Race (legit one of the best episodes of SG-1) ..O'neill was speaking Ancient and while he was going through the SGC's dialing computer and was asked what he was doing.. He said "Ego indeo navo locas" (I need new location) He clearly used the word "Navo" (it's in the script) ...Daniel repeated the word and translated it as "New" in that very same scene ..O'neill was programming a new address into the dialing computer ..The address to the Asgard homeworld It seems someone forgot they already established the Ancient word for "New" ...And it wasn't novus ..It was navo "Novus Mundus" is however the correct Latin translation for "New world" ...Latin ofcourse being the language on which the show creators based the Ancient language Maybe someone got lazy and just ran that shit through a translator while typing up the script to this episode ...Completely forgetting what was said in one of the most lore building episodes in the entire Gateverse Anyways ...Moving on 2x18: So coincidentally .. A few weeks ago ..David was talking about a scene that was cut from a Season 2 episode... I believe he said he saw it as missed context and he still regretted they didn't keep it in (kinda makes sense now) It was apparently hinted at earlier in the season that there was some sort of thing going on between Eli and Barnes but that at the time they scrubbed the scene to not take away from the Eli and Ginn storyline I asked him ..Who the fuck is Barnes? (Literally in those words ..Cause Tony doesn't do subtlety) Turns out in this episode ..This seemingly random person (who has actually been in a few other episodes.. 10 in total) had a name ...And Alternate Eli hooked up with her on Novus This would have provided further backstory to Eli and Barnes's relationship I suppose ...But without the proper context instead it turned into a funny clip as payoff to Eli repeatedly giving off the impression he was feeling lonely while everyone else around him was getting married and having kids

I like this story arc but the switching between past and future kind of throws me off. The TJ story line getting ALS was sad. I was thinking, I bet the Descendants have a cure for it. Was not expecting them to immediately lose it. Woah, nice catch by Varro when TJ fell off ladder. I was briefly bummed about Varro dying but them he didn’t die, good for him. Poor Rush, everyone picking on him.
