Torchwood S01E06 - Countrycide FULL REACTION

Comments

I've always liked this episode for the fact that it was normal people who were the monsters, not aliens but just regular people, which makes it so horrifying and disturbing in a show like this.

Probably one of my least favorite episodes. A clever twist, having just regular, run of the mill humans be the big bad of the episode - but this sort of content is unsettling for me. There was a movie I watched once - I won't mention the title, in case you haven't seen it, but I don't know that it'd be your cup of tea either. I couldn't watch the whole thing. I was under the impression, based on the ads, that it was basically modern take on the old noire genre; which I'm a fan of. There was a little bit of that, but that's not what it was about; and if you weren't familiar with the original source it was adapted from, you were probably in for a surprise. There was one scene in particular that had content like this. It wasn't graphic in the sense of seeing it happen, but the aftermath was graphic and they described it - which might be worse, right; because instead of seeing it, it forces your own imagination to paint the fucking picture. And you're going to imagine that shit in full 3D, because you're not limited to one camera angle; your brain knows how to make it real. And every once in a while something will jog my memory of that movie - like this episode, for instance; and I hate it...

I like this one, not that I'm a fan of catabolism, but because in a show dealing with aliens & supernatural stuff, it makes it a twist (at least for me) that there were non of those & it was just sick, remorseless people. Also, I think the team did a good just portraying how disturbing the whole thing was for them On a side note, a thought that just popped into my head, had the townsfolk managed to capture Jack, they'd never have to kidnap another person because with his healing factor they could harvest an unlimited supply of meat. Thankfully for him that didn't happen because it would be a horrible fate

Yeah, if there is one thing that makes me want to just turn a show off, say F***k it, next episode right then and there is when the have the cop put their gun down in a 3 way stand-off. Every police officer is taught to NEVER do that. All you do is guarantee you are a hostage, the other person is a hostage and give the perpetrator another gun. You soot, DONE. signal the other person, they jump back, hopefully they survive, but the bad guy definitely dies.

Episodes like this in Supernatural TV shows where the 'monster' is just a human always creep me out the most, this, Supernatural, X Files, all have episodes like this and that's what makes them the most terrifying because something like what they show could actually be happening. You're right Gwen's reaction is completely realistic which i really appreciate. Big Damn Hero Jack....

Yeah, the monsters in this were human cannibals, honestly I think that's an interesting idea. This episode actually reminds me of an episode in Supernatural's first season call "The Benders", where Sam and Dean are investigating a case thinking monsters are behind it, but no the killers are human, nothing supernatural behind it was a family of crazy hillbillies hunting people for sport. I think the reason why shows like this and Supernatural have these episodes, is so that people can be reminded that the scariest monsters aren't werewolves, vampires, demons or aliens but humans themselves. I've heard stories of serial killers and cults via true crime dramas, and they seem more scary then any alien in Doctor Who.
