2025-04-13 03:33:11 +0000 UTCAHH! I love this movie! I love the way it was filmed! Beautiful storytelling!! Every time I watch it I always notice something new! Just kids who are scared to be themselves 💔 Them secretly writing each others names on their paper and Minato saying he likes someone but he can’t tell anyone because they know he can’t be happy 😭😭 PLEASE I always feel bad for Mr. Hori. He seemed like a genuinely good teacher and like his job. Plus the kids seemed to really like him too and were saying how nice he is. Unfortunately due to misunderstandings and different perspectives he got the short end of the stick. Everyone in this town thinks he some evil child abuser now. And the mom I feel for her too. She was trying so hard to figure out what was going on with Minato and protect him. Plus how scared she must’ve been not knowing what was going on.

2025-04-13 03:16:15 +0000 UTCGosh this brought me back to the first time I watched where all the pieces started clicking and then eventually the feeling of dread set in, especially with the use of the horns. Then at the end...slowly realizing that the setting didn't match the weather we just saw... the lack of a gate... GAH. Masterful storytelling, and rewatching is fascinating when you know the outcome. What I love most are the subtle things. One small thing I realized from someone on twitter was that the show Minato and his mom watched from both his and her POV had a drag queen as a "funny" character that the mom imitated and later the bullies did too. From mom's POV we see Minato smiling at her, and from his we see him watching the show blankly. ugh my heart :( This is one movie I'll never get over!

2025-04-12 23:08:40 +0000 UTCnow!! i love when movies use colour and symbolism and this work does it really well. u will notice lots of very obvious symbols to rain and water as well as fire— the typhoon, the hostess bar fire, the cat cremation, yori ‘dying’ (as some believe) in the bathtub. these two things can be seen in both characters as well. both yori and minato have matching jumpers (yori’s being orange for fire and minato blue for water). they are both impulsive and unpredictable just like any old 10 year old and they clash in ways but both are able to calm and placate each others lives. their large and confusing feelings are just like the large unpredictable typhoon and it’s sweeping anger. them escaping the train cart can almost symbolise not a rebirth as like they say ‘we’re still the same’ but an acceptance of their identity, they survived the flurry of the typhoon and in so their own feelings and came out realising it didn’t matter about being reborn as someone else, all that mattered was that they lived in a way that makes them happy.

2025-04-12 21:29:09 +0000 UTCokay so as a big fan of this movie thought i would share some little details and info abt it! firstly the ending of course. kore-eda says in multiple interviews that he intended the ending to be ambiguous but in his idea they had survived- and the idyllic scenes following were showing their freedom in a sense. many people have said that the gates being flown off the tracks and such suggests the sense of liberation they can get from the world only when they are with one another. another thing being ryuichi sakamoto, may he rest in peace, who composed the score for the movie famously said ‘our salvation lies with the natural joy that children feel in being alive’.

2025-04-12 21:18:59 +0000 UTCi love this movie like its the little things. like when they where working on their essay about their future. first it had Minato looking at Yori when it was first announced, then them secretly putting each others names in their essay. and lastly the teacher noticing it. i just love the little details of this movie.
