My favourite thing about this series is how the plot points we've know will inevitably come, play out in completely unexpected ways. This whole time I thought I knew exactly what the emotional beats of The RevealTM would be (the BLINDING hurt of betrayal where the brothers are so emotional they can't even think straight, and the suffocating guilt from style and kant desperately trying to explain themselves, screaming fights and rupture, but then repair through realising their common enemy). But even though we did still get The RevealTM I never thought the brothers would learn the truth WITHOUT style and kant even REALISING they had been found out, and that changed the whole dynamic of the show going forward. Guess I will have to wait even longer for the emotional catharsis... I'm so fucking scared to finish ep 7 and have to start actually waiting for more since I've binged everything up to this point. Jesus christ this fucking show !!!

2025-01-05 03:21:52 +0000 UTCpossumbaby I truly have to commend you this is such in depth, thoughtful and well written analysis and I'm honoured that you'd share it in the comments here!!!!!!! this bit - "I don’t think for a second he was just humouring Bison, rather that, for the first time, he was allowing himself to imagine what a life together might look like, to believe in the fantasy they were creating between them, even if deep down he knew it was just that, a fantasy." ARGHHHHHSIAHIGHKHGSFHSGHKGHDAHGAKPSD yeah... yeah............. I'm so excited to get back into the swing of the show this coming week I feel like the break (and the suffering that I know is on the other side of it) has really stopped me in my tracks. Thank you sincerely for commenting

2024-12-28 08:57:03 +0000 UTCNo cause this episode was devastating!! The edits I’m getting on TikTok!! CRIMINAL!!! Kant is an adrenaline junkie. Gambling, tattoos, car thief, breaking into places, to Bison. That man is addicted to danger. Which I think is a part of why he seems so bad at the sneaking around part of all this. The thrill has always been a part of it. But then when he got into their house and saw the plans, it was like it all became much more real. It looked like he got hit with a bucket of cold water. And this episode we are seeing the aftermath of that. He is finally coming down from that adrenaline high and hitting reality. The way Style has been trying this and last episode to subtly hint the he knows about Fadel being a hitman and doesn’t care. He wants to badly to just tell him. Also- I think Fadel and Bison’s plan was so bad. Like what do you mean you were gonna kill him in front of all these people and then just dip??? In a costume where you can barely see?? With all your prints on that weapon??? That was your best plan???? I think i’m incredibly delulu, but I think Fadel and Style are gonna be fine. Like they definitely have to fight- but I think it’s not gonna be too painful. We know from the trailer that Style is going to have to work to win Fadel back- but i’m hoping that it’s in a more cute way. Also because we don’t see too much from them in the promo for the next episode(which is either really good or really bad.) I need Style to just break down. Just- as Fadel says- lay himself bare. I think Kant was telling the Captain that he is out and that’s what Bison saw. And because of that- the Captain is going to start to target Kant(maybe as a way to get to the brothers.) and we are going to see Bison crash tf out. And then the Captain is gonna come in and go to shoot Kant- who Bison will immediately step in front of and take the bullet for. And that’s how their relationship will be fixed. Kelly (BL Chef) was saying in a TikTok that maybe Bison is the one who will try and kill Style for Fadel and killed Fadel’s last parter because Fadel can’t. So he gets Bison to do it for him. Which like- if that is the case might as well just grab my heart and rip it out!! On a lighter note- this is the most ass grabbing I have ever seen in any show ever!!

PIED PIPER
2024-12-27 22:31:23 +0000 UTCHey, I survived the crime against humanity that was airing the Merlin series finale on Christmas Eve, so I'm immune to yuletide tears! Thank you as always for sharing your viewing experience with us. I have no-one else to talk to about the many Feelings this show provokes in me, so what follows is abominably long and wordy and I can only apologise. My highlights: Kant’s self-delusion – describing his snitching as “low-key” and boasting bout his security camera disabling skills in the bowling alley only minutes after we’d seen him caught on candid camera, the only reason he’d yet to be found out being an uncannily timed flirty text plus his assassin bf being a lovesick fool with the attention span of a goldfish! Also how, when you were speculating bout the dirt on Lilly being uncovered, I genuinely thought you were going to say ‘but I feel it would require Kant and Style to figure something out…and we all know that’s never gonna happen’ - I love them a lot but we’re screwed if their combined detective skills are all we’ve got! Edit: almost forgot - totally agree there's a *vibe* tween Kant and the Captain! Yes, it might just be the First Effect, but ooo the potential for a fucked up backstory! To start with, I'm wondering if this is even the first time Kant's been used as a honeytrap??? My absolute top moment, though, was how you went from 😟 to 🧐 when the K/B kissing scene heated up! Most of my thoughts centre on Kant (he means to me what Fadel means to you, plus I feel like he’s the underdog in fandom representation terms, so I’m confident others have the rest of the characters ably covered!), so sorry in advance for the tunnel vision! It breaks my heart to think that Bison will assume their meet cute and subsequent hook-up was all part of the deception when we know that’s not true and, what’s more, that Kant was genuinely smitten with him after just one night. If, for Kant, the bowling alley is the one place where they were real, for Bison it will be the one place where all the lies started. (Did anyone else clock that when Bison went down to the Lair, the song he was humming to himself (again) was the one they danced to ep 2?? Still reliving that moment, some four eps later...ouch.) I actually think at this point both Style and Kant WOULD be willing to commit some at least low to mid-level crime for the brothers! But they’re not ready to take a bullet to the head for/from them, which, fair enough. And, always, Kant has Babe to consider, so he’s never making a choice just for himself. I get you, though, and I totally get how we can recognise something is true/rational and yet that does sod all to mitigate our feelings. And you’re right, we’re definitely riffing on the tragedies at the mo, because not only do we have four people caught up in a web not (solely) of their own weaving, having no good choices, being forced into deceiving and hurting and betraying the ones they love, but WE CAN'T EVEN BLAME ANY OF THEM FOR IT, and for some reason that just makes it all the more painful. It’s a lot easier to handle when you can shout at someone (hence, I think, the vilification of Kant I've seen in some online spaces), or when the villains are actively out there killing and whatnot themselves, but when they stay behind the scenes and just manipulate the PROTAGONISTS into doing their dirty work for them... now THAT’S a tragedy – bow down to the perfect if on the nose Othello reference (I'm choosing to believe Babe deliberately picked it as his breakfast reading in order to shame his bro)! First R&J, now this…what’s next, Hamlet? Titus Andronicus?? (cos filial cannibalism is exactly what this show's missing!). Your comment about last meals on death row crossed my mind too (though then my fractious vegan side took over long enough to ask: is that not the premise on which the whole concept of organic farming is built??). The agony of both couples having these cross-purpose conversations where they’re both trying to convince the other of something but without knowing/understanding the whole story/true meaning…so painful but so so good and so so wonderfully executed/acted. I will, however, die on the hill of Kant’s sincerity during the Northern Lights scene - I’m convinced he meant every single word, from asking if it was possible for them to go together, to planning the details, even if simultaneously he understood it could never happen. Classic case of cognitive dissonance! I don’t think for a second he was just humouring Bison, rather that, for the first time, he was allowing himself to imagine what a life together might look like, to believe in the fantasy they were creating between them, even if deep down he knew it was just that, a fantasy. Again, it’s what you said about recognising the truth of something without it having the power to affect how you react on an emotional level: Kant recognises this is make believe but he wants SO BADLY for it to be real that it actually becomes so, at least in that moment. Which is why everything about the way he looks, speaks, acts in that whole scene is tinged with desperation, down to the desperate abandon with which he consumes Bison when they kiss. Ever since Kant told Style the truth, most of their conversations have been him aiming warnings ostensibly at Style that are in fact futile attempts to convince HIMSELF – no matter what, don’t fall in love (he says as he falls in love), get over it and move on (he says as he visits the restaurant with Style, adopts Bison’s cat, then sits at the bar drinking alone). My man lies to himself most of all! Even when he suggests the brothers may not come back because no matter how attached you are, you’ve got to ‘prioritise saving your own butt’, he’s really trying to justify his own decision to betray Bison. And I really like Style in that scene because for once he seems the more settled/assured of the two - he's already made peace with his feelings, and he sees through Kant's denials, so he's just sitting there serenely, making insinuating remarks, smiling softly at his silly friend. And I love the differences tween them, and the way we see those differences made manifest in their reactions this ep, especially to the brothers’ return (which I’ve literally just seen someone has turned into the most amazing edit: https://i-got-the-feels.tumblr.com/post/771041512943501312/style-dont-fall-in-love-with-him-i-can-go). If I may be permitted to bring out some cringey wellbeing lingo for a second: where Style is thriving, Kant is merely surviving! Style has hope – he wears his heart on his sleeve, he thinks there’s a chance everything will be okay, and yes some of that is naivete (e.g. the idea the law will let two hitmen walk free), but it’s not just that, it’s also a zest and love for life and the ppl in his. So when he sees Fadel again, he’s delighted, simple as. He’s not catastrophising, he’s not immediately seeing all the possible consequences or implications unspool before his eyes – Fadel is back + Fadel makes him happy = he is happy! Whereas Kant…not so much. Kant is just trying to keep his head above water – he can’t afford to wear his heart on his sleeve because he’s spent a good part of his adult life having to navigate and negotiate tween the Scylla of the criminal underworld and the Charybdis of law enforcement, where his very survival depends on his ability to mask how he really feels/who he really is. Unlike Style, he’s probably already spent most of eps 1-5 repeatedly picturing the end, the many possible ends, and NONE of them happy! So he’s resigned, he’s realistic…at least on the surface. But WE can recognise it’s just another façade. And then when he sees Bison…ow. There’s so much that plays out on his face, in his eyes: surprise, relief, love…almost immediately followed by fear, guilt, regret. And a bone-deep fatigue, because now he has to put the mask back on, even though it’s splintering before everyone’s – Style’s, Bison’s, Captain Chris’, the audience’s – eyes. I’ll try to end on a happier note! Something I love, and that speaks volumes to their acting, down to the control they have over their insane chemistry, is how FK were able to play the…wrongness (for want of a better word) of their dynamic in the earlier eps, e.g. when, on Kant’s part, it’s 70% lies, 10% horniness, 10% genuine fondness, and 10% terror. We’re used to seeing them be besotted from the get-go so it’s disconcerting to watch all the delicious flirting and hear all the right words but not FEEL the right feelings, not be able to completely enjoy it, which is why I think some viewers have had a hard time connecting with them in comparison to F/S. But as the eps progress, and those percentages shift, it becomes increasingly clear that this isn’t a fault in the writing or performances, but a deliberate narrative choice, only made possible by deliberate (and fantastic) acting choices, and what excites me is seeing how their relationship changes as all the masks come off and there are no more lies to hide behind (and I’m clinging onto the hope that the *insert Phoebe from Friends They don't know that we know they know we know GIF here* deception doesn’t last, if only because I sincerely doubt Bison can hold off the crazy for that long!). And whatever DOES come next is only going to hit as hard as it inevitably will precisely BECAUSE of all the false starts and guilt-ridden build-up of eps 1-6. We needed to see and experience the one to recognise and appreciate the other. So hats off to everyone involved!

2024-12-27 20:10:01 +0000 UTCSorry about the monitor issue. 😞Thank you, Freddie for this reaction. This episode was painful. Thinking about the difference in FadelStyle’s opening scene and their ending scene hurt me so much. 😭 And Bison, our precious baby, please don’t cry. 🥺 The heartbreak we’ve been anticipating has arrived. I know he’s a hit man, but we need to protect him. 💔 I honestly didn’t think this series would affect me. I thought it was just fun & games. I was so wrong! 😩 Now we gotta wait 2 weeks for the next episode? I heard there’s no episode on New Years. I hope that’s not true.🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

2024-12-27 17:59:15 +0000 UTCFreddie you missed one of the most devastating bits!! Kant in the bowling alley says "I wanted to spend time alone with you" and then you covered your face and I think you missed the "in the place where we first met." LIKE!!! Their first meeting was so special because it was a time when Kant really was himself and just wanted Bison with no ulterior motives!!! It's like he was trying to relive that in the place where they met!!!! Devastating!!!!!!!!

2024-12-27 17:47:22 +0000 UTCI'm glad it worked out in the end! Will be back to comment properly after I've watched, but for now just wanted to quickly add some more agony re. the music choices this ep, which were designed to hurt, in particular the two songs playing during the Kant/Bison bar scene. First one, playing while Kant drinks alone and then as Bison enters, is called To Stop Thinking of You: But my heart was heavy / So it was a fight / Not thinking of you / But I was thinking of you And where did you go I thought I saw you / Looking back but I imagined it / I'm loving small just trying to find / A place to stay or some traction / Just when I think I've finally found it / Those memories come crashing down / Oh you think I would've had it I push it down I bury it deep / And I flirt with sorrow / And the company I keep / To stop thinking of you And then EVEN WORSE is the one playing as Bison leaves, and the camera focuses in on Kant looking exhausted and guilty and heartbroken, because it's called...The Shame is On You: Don't try, try, don't, don't try to deny it You know it's true The shame is on you PAIN! I must admit, I did feel bad seeing your updates about struggling to watch part 4, because inside I was shrieking 'no don't do it! give up! you don't want to see what happens next! just stay in the bowling alley/rock concert forever!'
