REACTION: Word of Honor - Episode 36 & 37

what the ever living HELL was that.

END OF AN ERAAAAAAAAAAA. Watching this brought sooo many new people into the fold and I'm so happy you've been here with me watching. Let me take a quick breather and I'll be back with some options for what to watch next.

I also felt weird abt there not being any grief shown knowing how important AX was to WKX but there is a little fic called These Sorrows Left Behind that I would recommend that explore his mourning. That same author also did two sibling fics of intimate moments between WenZhou that fit into the shows without any alterations from both perspectives that I personally loved and would highly recommend🥰

I really can’t believe we made it all the way to the end already!! I started WOH because of your reactions and finished in four days and was completely obsessed while feeling absolutely insane🥲I do agree that the shows ending is vey rushed with many plot holes and honestly I think it’s because they bit off more than they could chew with how they decided to adapt the novel for the live action. The two forms are sooooooo vastly different and I’m interested to hear your thoughts on the book when you end up reading it. The other comments have already explained other bits of the show that might have been confusing as well as given wonderful recommendations so I’m going to end it here. I just love these two as well as the supporting characters and am so grateful I was able to witness this beautiful work❤️Rewatching with you was such a joy!! I’m always so thankful that I found this community🥰😊thank you for everything

I’m so happy to have you with us in the pain of these last few episodes! It’s been lovely having you reacting! Also if it makes you feel any better in the book as one of the extras it does state that ah Xiang and coa wenning meet in the afterlife and do reincarnate together!

We reached the finale!! Can’t believe it ! When you first started your WOH reactions, I was still finishing up my last semester at uni and now I have graduated and started my first full-time job. Time flies by so fastt, its crazy! I really enjoyed your reactions and it also gave me a chance to rewatch 🤭 If you’re looking for other c-dramas to react to next, I wanted to recommend mysterious lotus casebook. It’s also a historical c-drama with lotss of gay subcontext, kinda like dangai dramas (dramas adapted from danmei novels). I loved it so muchh and really need more people to watch and talk about itt !! The main characters basically travel around together and solve mysteries but of course there is many other moving parts. The mysteries are so well-done and I love the main characters so muchh! Anyway, thank you for reacting to WOH. It was an amazingg journey !! I just love your reactions in general so looking forward to future content~

ahhhh it finally is the end xD I am glad you enjoyed the show, even if there are the sad parts, but i feel like a good show needs to make you cry at least once :D I do not have any more information as @possumbaby already explained the ending about Cheng Ling and also the cultivation technique really well! Now for what i would recommend next, i admit i am biased. But i would love if you would take a look at some behind the scenes and also the two concert days! The main cast (our boys, a-xiang and weining, chengling, some ghosts, the lake brothers, scorpion king, ye bai yi) are all at the concert, some even perform songs of the soundtrack! The most fun part of the 2 concert days tho is the fact that they play games and they are absolutely hilarious! It's different games for boths days so it's fun to watch at least those two sections! There is also a specific song that is performered on one of the days thats a little bit *special* and gives kind of a hint to an extra chapter of the novel and gives a happy ending to two characters ;) I would also recommend to read the novel in general! Its a good, shorter, read and obviously uncensored ^^ -> Maybe it would be an idea to read it on stream? (though i know that might not be possible because of time constraints etc) Now for a new show to react to i come with these recommendations: - Meet you at the Blossom - it just started releasing, an adaption of a danmei book in mandarin, uncensored made in Thailand! - Mysterious Lotus Casebook - more sword fighting and mystery solving, Cheng Yi is an amazing actor - Mo Dao Zu Shi - The Donghua - I feel like the Donghua-version is way more uncensored than The Untamed could ever be, and it comes with beautiful art! - Spirerealm - just came out not long ago too, i have not started watching it yet but people seem to love it, and i know people looovee the danmei it's based on!

This remains one of my all time favourite shows and it's been a delight re-watching it along with you, so thank you! Just a couple of things that might be of interest - I think actually Gao's daughter ends up with the formerly zombified then resurrected guy (who is the dad with the moustache fetching his son in that final scene) who was actually her original fiance, because apparently the term Cheng Ling's disciples use to refer to her basically means their shifu's (Cheng Ling's) martial sister, and it's not the term they'd use had she married him. And the other big thing that emerged afterwards was apparently much of adult Cheng Ling's dialogue in the finale was re-dubbed to make it less gay (something they did throughout the show) and, as a result, you lose the explanation. What he actually says bout the technique WKX uses is that basically if the two ppl are soulmates then they can both survive. Which explains Ye Bai Yi's smiley attitude bout WKX agreeing to die and his line bout nobody dying before him - he's testing WKX's love for ZZS and WKX passes with flying colours, so YBY knows they'll both be ok. If you want all the detail, you can hear about it here: https://youtu.be/Ix77iJTjtjo?si=Zd6JH6di6h1wDJF5&t=766 (this channel goes through the whole show pointing out all the dialogue that was re-dubbed and explaining what the actors actually said (spoiler alert: it's just all ten times gayer!)). Getting in my rec now while I still can - The Devil Judge is a phenomenal kdrama with a truly wonderful found family at its heart, and it's also probably the most explicitly queercoded mainstream kdrama out there - the showrunner openly talked about gender-flipping character archetypes e.g. he cites Beauty & the Beast, Jane Eyre and Rebecca as inspirations, but with one of the male leads in the role of Beauty/Jane/the second Mrs de Winter. It's also impeccably acted, the cinematography is stunning, the plot is twisty and gripping and thought-provoking, the music is breathtaking...it's just perfect! Mere words cannot do it justice!

This has been such a fun journey! Word of honour is probably one of my favourite shows of all time and honestly I rarely see people react to it (it’s very underrated in my opinion). I remember when I first watched this show I was fully distraught after episode 36 because I thought that was it LOL Unfortunately this show started off with a really low budget, like many other danmei, which meant it didn’t really have that freedom to tie off all plot points :( However I highly recommend checking out the novel it was based on (Faraway Wanderers) as it’s honestly hilarious (Wen Kexing is like 10x more sassy it’s great). Also if you are interested in another ‘bromance’-bordering BL c-drama, I recommend ‘Advance Bravely’. It’s honestly kind of insane and since the drama was aired in 2017, the censorship restrictions were a lot less strict and so a lot more slips past. It is a modern day drama based off a BL novel of the same name and also features Gong Jun (the same actor who plays Wen Kexing). Thank you so much for the journey, can’t wait to see whats next :D

bek.

Oof I’m glad that you watched 37 at the same time, because I didn’t know it existed and was NOT ok after 36

Dan

I can't believe the journey is over! I feel like you just started in this show. I hadn't watched a lot of the middle episodes, because I was spoiled with how it wrapped up and was a little disappointed, honestly. I'm glad that they get to be immortals together, but I'm sad that they seem to be outside of the martial arts world now. I'm excited to see what you'll be reacting to next! Since you only just started reacting recently, I don't know much about your history with BLs. Have you seen the older ones like Until We Meet Again and History3: Trapped? I like the haircut, by the way! Good for summer.
