WATCH ALONG: Angel Series Finale s5e22

WATCH ALONG: Angel Series Finale s5e22

Well that's the end of the "Angelverse"... I call it that, because even though the universe started with Buffy... It ended with Angel, and Angel the character was in more episodes in that universe than Buffy... 3 seasons of Buffy, and 5 seasons of Angel makes 8 seasons while Buffy was only in 7... And she got her happy ending. Angel had to learn how to fight for the people, and not be disconnected at the same time before he found out about the prophecy, and the award. He had to figure out what other things he wanted to fight for in life to keep him connected to it too. After all those things, and even after Cordellia reminded him what for; he had to sign away his rights from getting that reward that he's worked so hard for to prove he was on the bad side, to ultimately take down the black thorn for good... And he signed it so fast, because he's always used to fighting for no reward at all... The wrap ups in season 5 was insane! Finally meeting Wesley's "father" Angel forgiving Wesley for taking Connor, and realizing that he looks at the big picture, and have to make the hard choices for everyone Angel, and Connor FINALLY talking, and Connor saying that he understands what he did for him, and how grateful he is. How much he cared at the end that Angel might die. Spike finally having the guts to do his poetry again after Angel admitted how much he liked them when everyone else in the old days made fun of them. The parents visiting "Fred" wasn't closure, but it was a nice bliss for them, so they can keep going on with their happy lives. So in a way it was closure for them Angel was the better show for me... Every season had a cliffhanger... Angel made it clear "This is where we die." But the Angel Avengers took the club with them. My favorite Angelverse characters... 1. Angel 2. Willow 3. Cordellia 4. Connor 5. Gunn 6. Faith 7. Fred 8. Spike Some are not in order, but Angel is definitely #1. He took a back seat a few times from being the star in his own show, to look like an embarrassment at times, so the others can look good, and it never took down his character in the end Anyway nice reactions 👍🏾✌🏾

You should read the graphic novel next, just for yourself. It's on Amazon if you use that. You will like how the Illyria/Fred situation ends. Joss Whedon did a whole graphic novel sequel to this. You will be surprised who comes back. The graphic novel is called "Angel Season Six".

Great that you completed it! Can we get the edited releases for seasons 3-5 now? I’m holding off watching for those

I love this ending, as I think it perfectly summarizes the main theme or mission statement of the show: there's no "winning" against evil, as it will always be there; what matters is that we keep fighting it anyway. This journey with you has been a blast! I agree that Buffy is overall the better show, but I do feel like Angel had the best character arcs - Wesley, Cordelia and Faith went through the biggest change/growth in the Buffyverse imo, and they all did it on this show. So for that (and mostly redeeming Angel as a character to me, as I was decidedly NOT a fan when he was on Buffy), I'm grateful it got made. A VERY worthwhile spinoff, which is rare.

Thank you Ashleigh. I have watched the Buffyverse so many times, but this was the closest I have ever gotten to watching it again like it’s the first time. It’s been such an entertaining and satisfying journey across the board. Seasons 4 & 5 have some pretty tough pills to swallow, but as a whole I really love the Angel series. There are some low moments for sure but there are also some truly great moments that rival even Buffy, in my opinion. I am so glad Ashleigh was able to experience the entirety of this universe the way it was meant to be watched, and that we were able to take the journey with her. It has been a hell of a ride! P.S. Fred and Wesley’s “Would you like me to lie to you?” moment is still one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful things I have ever experienced on TV.

I both agree and disagree about your emotional blue balls statement. Show wise, yes it was a bit abrupt. It did need some length to make the ending mean a little more. As far as closure and story. I think it fits really well. Angel has 100% always been about the fight, rather than Buffy being about the victories. If there was a season 6 and they knew about the show ending, I believe we would have had the last 2 episodes expanded out into half of season 6 if not all of it, with a slower burn and maybe had Hamilton as the season 5 bad guy. Thank you for watching with us!

Technically she isn't done. There IS A BUFFY SEASON 8 ON DVD AS WELL AS AMAZON PRIME! it's animated... but it is cannon! At least till we get Buffy New Sunnydale
