Gile's song is when I started hating him the most. As far as they were concerened Buffy had been dragged out of a hell dimension, was left with a load of debt and a sister she has to keep safe. He abandoned her, he said it was to make her stand on her own two feet but he didn't giver her the chance to adjust. Everyone expected her to pick up her slayer duties (fight for her life every night), pay bills and look after her sister without any help.

Since you asked, I'll be honest--when this first aired, I loved the story but didn't much care for the music. It's just not remotely my taste. I mostly listen to industrial rock, and I just didn't find the songs that appealing. But I immediately loved the the lyrics in the songs, and over the years even the songs I didn't care for at the time have grown on me because I love the characters and where they are and what the songs reveal. So I adore this episode in general, and now I can't help but sing along with all of the songs as they go--even about bunnies--despite the fact that this kind of music and the actors' voices aren't always good on the ear. Considering none of them are singers except for Anthony Head, I think they do a great job (especially Amber Benson, lordy).

One of my favourite episodes of TV of all time. I re-subbed specifically to watch this as I wanted to sing along whilst watching your reaction to it! As you know the episodes get spicy from here on out and that Tara and Willow scene... well that wasn't as obvious to me when I first watched it (at least the 'com-plete' double meaning haha).

autotune had been a thing since 1997. No one sang live, they all lip synced all the songs. Sarah definitely was auto tuned as she isnt a good singer (her words) .

What did I feel like watching this when it aired? Like something bad was about to happen, both in real life and in the show. Turns out I was right.

Yes, they all sung. No auto tuning was not a thing yet . Sara only sang the first song and lip sang the rest. Aly (willow) has sever stage freight when it comes to singing which is why she sang so little. Both Giles and Spike have bands they sing in. Terra is just natural talent. The idea for the show came from weekly party's at Joss's house. The cast from both shows would sing around the piano or guitar. Joss realized the large talent pool he had and over the summer began working on Buffy the Musical. It took about 3 months to produce. Nick took the longest to acclimate as he had no prior experience in singing or dancing. Beside the Tony award winning actor they brought in as the villain, the spotlight was always on Giles, Spike, and Terra, the weekly party regulars. It's only a shame we couldn't have gotten Lorren from Angel to visit. The next big project would be the movie "much ado about nothing" staring allumi cast from Buffy and Angel.
