That’s a great one! It’s just so bizarre and absurd! 😂

Ashleigh, I have three words for you. Better Off Dead (1985).

On another-another level, there's the basic comedic irony of The Big Lebowski labeling The Dude "a bum" "looking for a handout" who needs to "get a job" when it's actually him who has to steal from his family's charity, because he isn't good at running a business.

I am a patron of a few other reactors and watched this along with you and Kazzy Reacts playing on separate monitors. It was like having a little movie party. I wonder how many reactors I can sync up at the same time? Can't wait until I can start having people over for movie nights again. lol

Just to be clear right off the bat I have no issue with this movie being the choice, it placed in the poll fairly, but sitting here on a Monday night without having watched a full movie watchalong for over 4 full days feels weird now ;)

On one level, this is a film noir with typically idiotic Coen Brothers protagonists trying to solve crimes that they're really not equipped for. We end up knowing the whole picture, but like in a lot of noir films, the idea that the bad people will get their comeuppance or the good will get rewarded is shaky at best.
On another level, it's about U.S. military policy, the danger of getting into conflicts you don't understand, trying to "win Vietnam" decades later, and how the people who bear the brunt of the consequences are guys like Donny who aren't the ones making the decisions.
For a Coen Brothers movie with more comedy and a plot with more closure, I'd say O Brother Where Art Thou? is just the thing.

"All of it was for nothing?" How about for... entertainment? There doesn't have to be a definite beginning, middle, and clearing-it-all-up ending. That "certain kind of humor" comment at the end nails it. I have that certain kind of humor and laugh my arse off for 80 percent of this movie every single time. I'm getting used to hearing people say they don't really get that kind of humor though. To each his own. I still enjoyed the reaction. Honestly, I like when every once in a while a movie (even if it's one I love) isn't liked. It would get boring if every movie was loved (or pretended to be loved to satisfy subscribers).

Nope, there are no extended/alternate versions of this movie.

it would be very useful if you displayed the movie in a corner, you can blur it, it would help us to synchronize...

Was this an extended version.? I was watching it on DVD and had Ashleigh on my tablet. Everything was fine until midway through the movie. I was watching the scene in the back of the limo where they gave the Dude the toe and Ashleigh was talking about Sam Eliot's mustache. She started mentioning things that weren't on my copy and I also couldn't sync back up.

I'm so glad you watched this trippy movie. I think I like it more than you do but I can certainly agree that the humor is not for everyone. Many thanks for sharing this with us.

I have to say, it seems a little bit nuts that people have to suggest movies on every post, hoping that it might be noticed eventually and added to a poll.
How about creating a "Suggestions for this month" post, every month, and letting everyone pile their suggestions in there? Others can vote for the ones they want by "liking" a given comment. Then, after a few days, the list is scanned by Ashleigh and a poll is created with the suggestions that received the most likes.

This is the first time I've actually watched the movie. I took a pass on it when it came out, but have seen a ton of clips and things since so many of its bits have become pervasively referenced all over the place. (Hell, there were Big Lebowski references in "My Little Pony", if you can believe it (Sam Elliot too).) Yep, it's not for everyone, but there are enough who love it that it helps to "speak the language."
