The little boy that played "Sams" (Jermaine Hopkins), was able to buy his Parents a house on 20 acres of land at age 14 that his Mom still lives in today off his "Lean On Me" check.

Limiting the programs they were able to offer 20 years later. 1987 was also the height of the crack epidemic that impacted all races especially those in poorer neighborhoods.

They call themselves Riff and they have a music career in the business because of this movie. They just celebrated the 35th anniversary of the movie last year and got a street named after them in Paterson called Riff Road( also known as the lean on me boys). Most of my family went to eastside in Paterson. Joe Clark received the keys to the city in 2021 though he passed in 2020 he is still a major stable of Paterson.
