Deku-kun's Revenge (Choose Izuku's Adventure) Prologue

This is the prologue for the 'Choose Izuku's Adventure' story, which you can find more info about here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/choose-izukus-82001940

In this prologue, Izuku goes by his original name (his prototype character design before MHA's author changed him to Izuku Midoriya): Mikumo Akatani, with his nickname being 'Yamikumo' instead of 'Deku'. Don't worry—by the end of this prologue, he's the same Izuku Midoriya we all know and love, so you don't need to memorize or get used to his original name or anything—it's solely there for the sake of the story emphasizing his change. Mikumo Akatani also uses his original concept art character design while MHA was still being developed, so this is what he looks like during the start of this prologue:

Should also note that the premise for this story is loosely based on a manga/anime called 'Masamune-kun's Revenge'. I don't recommend reading/watching it because it's honestly really bad (no offense to any fans of it), but the premise makes for a really fun and spicy interactive story idea, so the title of this story is also a nod to that inspiration even though I think the original manga/anime isn't good.

“Psst…you know what I heard? I heard Takashi is gonna confess to…her.”

“No way, to her? You can’t be serious! He must have balls of steel!”

“Had a whole speech planned and everything, apparently!”

A loud smacking sound interrupted the gossip as Katsumi Bakugou stood up, slamming her hand into her desk. “Oh? Is it true what they’re saying?” She turned to the sweating boy named Takashi. “Heh. You really think you’re good enough to ask me out?”

The poor boy waved his hands around. “I wasn’t actually gonna do it, I just said I was thinking about it! Hey, come on, back me up, guys!”

Katsumi grabbed him by the collar of his shirt to shout in his face about how no girl from Aldera Middle School—no, in all the world—would ever want to date him, least of all her.

Mikumo shrunk in on himself in the corner as he watched the entire scene, patting his messy black hair down to make himself seem smaller. Katsumi’s shouting was intimidating and triggering considering how much shouting she’d done at him throughout their childhood, but he also couldn’t help but admire how confident and steadfast she was. He wanted some of that confidence. Maybe that was what caused him to be so attracted to her…Katsumi stole everyone’s attention whenever she entered the room, and even when it was negative attention, she was still able to puff out her chest and shine in the spotlight.

“What’re you looking at, Yamikumo?” She spat out the degrading nickname she’d given him, stomping over to him and hopping on his desk.

“Eep! I-I didn’t mean to stare…I mean, nothing! I was looking at nothing…”

Katsumi leaned in closer and grabbed him by the hair, eyes narrowed. “You calling me ‘nothing’?”

He tried to shake his head, but it was hard with her grip on his hair.

“Listen to me, Yamikumo. You’re the only nothing around here. No friends, no life…” She smirked. “And no quirk, so no future.” She dusted her hands off and slid off of his desk to walk away.

Despite the tears welling up in his eyes, he couldn’t help but watch the way her skirt slid against his desk so elegantly when she got off.

Katsumi was a bully, there was no doubt about that. Ever since they were kids, she had decided Mikumo was an easy target and constantly beat him down because he was quirkless. She even nicknamed him Yamikumo because he was a ‘dark and gloomy cloud, and no one likes the rain’.

Despite all of this, and despite the fact that he had just watched her chew out one of the other boys in their class for even thinking about asking her out, Mikumo mustered up the courage to confront her after school the day before winter break.

“K-Kacchan!” He took several deep breaths as Katsumi glared at him with a hand on her hip, two of her female friends behind her. He ignored their stares, though, to bow his head and hand out a wrapped Christmas present. “I-I know things have always been complicated between us, but I think it’s time you finally understood how I truly feel…I like you, Kacchan! I always have! So…would you please consider going out with me?” He squeezed his eyes shut, shaking and waiting for the inevitable shouting.

“...the hell? You actually like me? Is there something wrong with your brain cells? Do you know how hard I’ve been trying to keep you the hell away from me because of how gross you are?!”

He winced, sniffing back tears.

“...alright, Yamikumo, you pathetic nerd.” She snatched the Christmas present out of his hands and kicked him to the floor, grinning down at him. “I’ll accept just out of pity. Just this once.”

Depression had never turned to elation so fast as Mikumo’s jaw dropped and he sat up on his knees. “Wait, r-really? You will?”

She held up her hand. “It’s just a pity date. Don’t start bragging as if I’ve given you any real time of day.”

He let out a triumphant cry, jumping to his feet and fist pumping. “S-sorry, I’m not bragging, I’m just…so happy! Even if it is a pity date…o-oh, I’ll send you all the plans I’ve come up with and then we can rule them out one by one until we decide on the perfect first date! I have pictures to go along with all the different date plans, too! I’ve spent years outlining them and—”

“Shut up! Fuck, I’m gonna regret this, aren’t I?” Katsumi pinched the bridge of her nose and began walking away.

“I-I’ll text you! J-just don’t forget to unblock my number, okay?” He called after her before jumping from one foot to the next. He couldn’t wait to tell his mom!

---

He had specifically waited until the last day of school before winter break to confess so that, if Katsumi did somehow accept, they’d have all of break to start their new relationship! And if she rejected him like he’d expected, he could use winter break to wallow in his own depressing life and avoid contact with the world.

The fact that things worked out so well and Katsumi accepted had him so excited, all of his fantasies about spending winter break together suddenly becoming a possibility…but despite accepting his feelings, Katsumi proceeded to ignore Mikumo’s texts for the entirety of winter break. It hurt him every time he woke up with no messages from her, no sign that she’d even looked at his messages. She was still posting on social media, so he knew she was being social, but even when he commented on her pics, she never acknowledged his existence.

And so, that pity date never actually happened. But that was okay! The thrill of having her accept it at all had been so high that he’d been able to ride it through the entirety of winter break, and now he was just excited to be back at school and to see her again! See how or if their dynamic had changed…

When he walked in the classroom, he immediately saw Katsumi sitting on his desk, which made him brighten up. But then he heard snickering from all their other classmates, with some of them even pointing at him while others looked at Katsumi. Most of them, however, were looking up at the front of the classroom.

Mikumo had gotten bullied so much that he could just tell when he was about to become the victim of something nasty. His stomach dropped as he looked at the front of the classroom, covering his mouth at the sight of the front screen projecting…a bunch of screenshots. Screenshots of texts. His texts. To Katsumi.

There were all sorts of embarrassing things that he’d said over the course of winter break—begging for attention, whining about if she’d forgotten to unblock him, reassuring her that he didn’t mind being ignored because he was so happy still, sending a list of 50 different date ideas (not an exaggeration) and then going into deep detail about each one despite getting no response from her, asking every single day if she wanted to schedule their first pity date…he even called it a pity date and still talked about how excited he was. All of it, all of his privacy, was displayed on the front screen for all to see.

Katsumi finished observing her nails before she once again slid off of his desk and walked towards the entrance of the classroom, where he was still frozen.

“Since you’re so desperate for attention, I decided to give you everyone’s attention.” She wore a cruel smirk. Every step she took towards him felt like her heel digging into his heart. “I lied about ‘pity dating’ you, and I thought you knew that. It should be obvious that nobody could ever even pretend to date a quirkless loser like you! But when I saw you sending texts every day, I realized you actually thought…you actually thought you were worth a pity date! With me!” When she laughed, the whole rest of the class laughed along with her, making tears run down Mikumo’s face.

“I-I thought…”

“We all know what you thought!” She shoved his chest so his back hit the wall. “All your thoughts are right up there on the board! Aww, were you excited for mommy to dress you up for your first date because you can’t dress yourself?”

The class roared in laughter again, pointing at that screenshotted message as Mikumo blushed and cringed and wiped his sobbing face.

“Get real with yourself, Yamikumo. I don’t know how anyone could tolerate a clingy loser like you. That’s why you don’t have any friends, nonetheless a girlfriend!”

Against his better judgment, he looked around at all the girls in the class whispering to each other and giggling in his direction. His crushed heart sank even more as he began backing up.

Even the teacher chuckled as she read over some of the screenshots. They were using her projector to show them off, after all, so even she was in on it…

“Your nickname ‘Yamikumo’ isn’t just because you’re a gloomy, gross dark cloud.” Katsumi crossed her arms with a cruel grin. “It’s because you constantly cry just like a raincloud. So what’re you gonna do now, you crybaby Yamikumo who still needs his mom to dress him up?”

His lips quivered as he fully backed out of the classroom.

She stomped her foot forward. “You’ll always be nothing more than a pathetic waste of space! And now, everyone in our class knows it, too. Do yourself a favor and take a swan dive off the roof—maybe the next life will be kinder to you!”

That was the last straw—knowing that this type of humiliation would now follow him for the rest of middle school. He stormed out of the classroom and ran away, furiously wiping the never-ending tears from his face the entire time.

He would never forget the sound of Katsumi’s cruel laughter following him down the entire hallway.

---

He moved away from Aldera Middle School later during that school year after the bullying continued to grow worse—both from Katsumi and from the other classmates who were inspired by the screenshots from that day to make sure Yamikumo always knew he was a hopeless, clingy, quirkless loser.

His mom hugged him and did everything she could to comfort him. She even decided that they would both start going by his father’s family name instead, ‘Mikumo Midoriya’ instead of ‘Mikumo Akatani’. When nothing else seemed to lift his crushed spirit, Inko finally decided they would move all the way across the country to the United States of America, to live with his dad who worked overseas.

As he began attending school in America, even his own name, ‘Mikumo’, began to trigger him. All he could think of when he heard it was Katsumi’s version of it: Yamikumo. Dark cloud. Crybaby.

So, he changed his entire name from Mikumo Akatani, to Mikumo Midoriya, to Izuku Midoriya. A new identity. A fresh start.

His mom always insisted his black hair was actually just a very dark green and it was just taking a long time for him to take on his mom’s lighter shade of green. As it turns out, she was right—his hair eventually grew to take on his mom’s green hair as opposed to his dad’s black hair. Pretty late in his life for a dramatic hair change, but he obviously didn’t mind the change. Change had become his new best friend. His only best friend…until the third year of middle school, when he met Melissa.

The whole thing had been a chance encounter. He didn’t even know her, but when he saw that poor girl being strangled by a slime villain, he had no choice but to rush in and try and save her. In those moments, Katsumi’s words berating him for being born quirkless had never rang louder in his ears, and yet he’d rushed in anyways.

That had also been his chance meeting with All Might. Thus began Izuku’s training to become the next successor of One for All, accompanied by his budding friendship with Melissa, who was also quirkless.

Once upon a time, Izuku had let Katsumi convince him that he would be a worthless loser forever. Now, as his life began to turn around, he couldn’t help but think about her again. His oldest friend…his first friend…his first crush…and the worst bully he’d ever had to face. He wanted her to see him now! He wanted to smile at her and tell her that he was improving! He wanted to show her that he wasn’t just a quirkless loser anymore—he was going to become a hero, just like her!

“Why do you care what she’d think of you?” Melissa asked him one day, arms crossed.

The question stunned him. He didn’t really have an answer. He didn’t know why he cared…he just did. He wanted to show her the new him. He wanted to show her that Mikumo Akatani had died and been replaced with Izuku Midoriya.

He got his chance during the spring break leading up to high school. His mom and dad took him back to Japan to visit, and he found Katsumi at one of their old favorite hangout spots downtown, near the All Might gacha machine!

“Kacchan? Kacchan!” He shouted, running towards her with wide, shining eyes. He couldn’t believe it. After all this time, they were really going to reunite! And she would see how different he was now, and maybe she’d even be charmed, and he thought he’d gotten over her completely but wow the last few years had really done wonders on her beauty, so he couldn’t help but feel like an excited puppy as he finally reached her and grinned and waved and opened his mouth to speak…!

Katsumi raised an eyebrow as he called her name again. “Who the hell are you?”

Izuku’s world froze. He couldn’t even break his own smile, just staring at her with wide eyes as she looked him over in genuine confusion before shrugging and walking away—no cruelty, no malice, just pure and genuine disregard.

He didn’t move from that spot for at least a few minutes, slowly looking down at the ground. But…no tears came. Instead, he clenched his hands into fists and took deep breaths, the power of One for All threatening to overtake his body and start breaking some of his own bones from how uncontrollably emotional he was getting.

A line had been crossed. A line he didn’t even know existed. A line that never should’ve existed, and yet in classic Katsumi fashion, she drew that line herself just so she could cross it and be as offensive as possible…without even meaning to.

Then, it all came to a head when he finally ranted about it to Melissa, what Katsumi had said, what she’d done, how she’d forgotten him completely, and all of the complex feelings he was going through because of that.

Melissa gritted her teeth, rested a firm hand on his shoulder, and fixed him with a stern gaze. “You can’t let her get away with it. This has gone too far, Izuku.”

His eyes widened a bit. After everything he’d been through, the type of person it had shaped him to be, revenge had of course never been a consideration for him! That just wasn’t who he was. And yet, as he looked into Melissa’s eyes as she encouraged him more and more, he felt those flames of bitterness that Katsumi had stoked within him for their entire lives beginning to kindle.

He wasn’t the type of person who revenge came naturally to…but that could change. He could change. After all, change was his best friend.

And so, he replayed every single time Katsumi had ever wronged him. He remembered the moment she decided to falsely accept his pity date, the moment she revealed his clingy text messages to the class just to destroy his social life, the moment she didn’t even recognize his face after only a few years apart…the moment she first found out he was quirkless as toddlers and their entire relationship changed…

He remembered their entire life together. He let those moments echo in his head, over and over again, fanning the flames of revenge while he looked at himself in the mirror and clenched his fists.

Izuku would get his revenge on Katsumi. He would make her feel the way she made him feel. He would find his way back into her life, show her how much he’s changed, become a man that she just couldn’t resist…and then, when she was at the peak of her desire for him, he would humiliate her. Reject her. Give her none of the attention that she found herself craving.

Izuku would break Katsumi’s heart, just like she did to him.

And so it begins. Once we hit the $100 goal, I'll post the first chapter which will also be accompanied by the first poll to make Izuku's major choices for him, and every chapter from here on out will be that way—accompanied by a poll to decide the course of Izuku's revenge and journey. I've always wanted to do an interactive story like this, so this is going to be tons of fun! Again, polls are only accessible to Patrons in the $5 tier and higher.

Comments

Glad you like the interactive format of the story! There will definitely be a lot of moments impacted by the choices we make in the story, so it'll be fun to see how those turn out! Definitely a big part will be picking and choosing character interactions and missing out on some others, though I still want the story to feel satisfying in giving everyone a fair chance to allow Izuku to get with each girl since that's what everyone wants to see, it's just a matter of how it ends up playing out. You can definitely imagine a lot of different scenarios changing based on Momo becoming vice president as opposed to Katsumi, and the possibility of so many potential storylines branching out from each choice is exactly what I want to capture with this story!

"She even nicknamed him Yamikumo because he was a ‘dark and gloomy cloud, and no one likes the rain’." I don't know if you plan it but that's a cool thing because of the most "recent" Bakugo stuff in the manga. "He let out a triumphant cry, jumping to his feet and fist pumping." Izuku, you're one of the worst types of simps XD. "It hurt him every time he woke up with no messages from her, no sign that she’d even looked at his messages." I feel bad for him, but I also want to punch him in the face. This interactive type of story is really interesting. I'm excited to see how our decision would have advantages or disadvantages for Izuku's journey. I few ones that come to mind would be: Reward choices - Picking Momo as vice president in Chapter 2 and because of that in Chapter 7, you get a unique Momo moment. Morality/character choices - To decide between beating innocent kids or not. If Izuku beats them up, he will be closer to getting his revenge, but he will also become a bully like Katsumi. If he doesn't beat them up, he loses that opportunity and now has to look for different alternatives that are riskier but prevent him from becoming an abuser like Katsumi. Knowledge Choices - Izuku infiltrates Katsumi's room but hears that someone is coming and has to choose where to hide. A few chapters ago they said that the only person who does cleaning is Ochako, so she is the only one who moves things like the bed. One of the options is to hide under the bed. So if we pick any other options that aren't under the bed, Izuku would be spotted, but if people remember the information from prior chapters, they would save Izuku. Or multiple bad choices could eliminate girls from joining Izuku - You didn't pick Momo for vice president, you didn't help Momo; you didn't tell Momo the truth. Momo is an enemy. Another thing that might be interesting is if after an arc/season ends (depending on how long you want this series to be) you can do a post telling us how our choices changed the story. EX: Since you pick Momo as vice-president, you unlock the conversation in Chapter 7 with unique information that you wouldn't have if you pick Katsumi. If you had chosen Katsumi as vice-president you would not have had to infiltrate her room since thanks to Izuku being the president he would have had to do work together in Katsumi's room which would give Izuku the opportunity to take what he needs without any difficulty.

The revenge theme is definitely going to be tons of fun, especially since readers will have control over how it plays out! I'm excited for it, too ^^

Can’t wait for the goal to be reached. I love the heavy revenge theme that this story has already.
