Well cybermen have many parallel evolutions on different planets etc in the main universe. The faction from this episode are obviously a few evolutions ahead of ones from Mondas or Telos at this point in the timeline

listen to the creepy nursery rhymes after the season and they make a lot more sense

fun fact: Amy’s perfume is named ‘Petrichor’ and it is the same word that Iris (the Tardis) told her to think about in ‘The Doctors Wife’ in order to get to the tardis’ control room

There are always some lower power episodes so they have more money for the big ones

Though from what I gather, this isn't a very popular story, I kind of like it. My only real gripe I have with it is that they perhaps should have gone back to the classic series designs for the Cybermen in this, maybe updating them slightly, while keeping it recongnisable, perhaps the design seen in the 1960s 'Invasion' story or the 1980s look, it would have made more narrative sense visually.

The doctor was 1103 when the astronaut kills him but at the start of the series he was 909 you are right. The doctor has aged but mostly offscreen. This is a part of the Steven Moffat era of Doctor Who (Series 5-10) that you will have to get used to where the Doctor’s lifespan increases hugely between episodes where he is either solo travelling or having a lot of offscreen adventures with companions. I prefer this to the RTD era where the Doctor only aged in real time for the most part (being 900 in Series 1 and 906 when David Tennant regenerated). I think having the Doctor age more between episodes adds to just how much of an ancient alien he is
