2025-01-14 15:39:30 +0000 UTC“You never interfere in the affairs of men unless there are children dying.” I love that quote. Though his “fixed point” laws are obviously important, I feel like the Doctor’s time travel help motto could equally be summed up as “whenever his bleeding heart won’t break the universe.” He can’t help himself. This is a very bittersweet episode. We start in fear of the oppressive state and then it shifts more to the beast and then finally, the bad guy was really just the human race. Everyone was complicit. When all seemed lost, a benevolent hand reached out to help us and we latched onto it with our teeth. It’s sad and not an unimaginable reaction. But it’s also beautiful from the perspective of a star whale. For plenty of people on earth, the ways in which they have bled are the ways in which they are most beautiful. They use their scars like guiding constellations for helping all of those that are sad and hurt and crying silently. “Kind of hating humans and that’s not common for the doctor.” - Idk about that. I guess it was less common for 10 (though it did happen) but 9 was relentlessly going on about “stinking apes” lol. It’s a stark contrast. 11 more whimsical and childlike but that was some towering rage. He’s still older at the end of the day. And while he may be refreshed, the final events of season 4 are still his most recent memories. It’s tough.

2025-01-14 14:58:58 +0000 UTCPulled up this episode whilst in the office (I work in vfx) and spent quite a while with my colleagues marvelling over how bad the cgi is in the opening shot. The tops of all the buildings are just completely blank haha. Anyway - good episode overall I think, quite a heavy one for a 2nd outing though!
