Blog 14 : My Top 10 Pokemons - 1st Gen

It's been more than 20 days since the previous blog and I have been wanting to do this for a while. Yes, this is inspired by ProZD again.

These are my 10 top favorite pokemons out of Kanto region's pokedex which is the first 151 pokemons.

I might do the next ones for the next gens depending on how you guys are interested in seeing this. Pokemon has been a part of my childhood memories (and still is) so I had fun doing this in the meanwhile that I'm waiting for my food delivery to arrive.

-------------------------------------

10th - Arcanine

I just like fluffy pokemons and dog-like pokemons in general, and Arcanine is extra fluff and majestic and cool. Enough said.

9th - Beedrill

Bees and hornets are probably my favorite bugs and I normally hate bugs. I would have favored this pokemon already with just them being a bee but adding drills to a bee brings it to the next level of awesomeness.

8th - Ninetales

One of the most majestic looking creature existed in Pokemon universe. Ninetales can win over most legendary pokemons in a beauty contest I swear. I also love foxes so that's a thing.

7th - Muk

I have to mention I'm always a fan of shapeless slimy monsters and I also like underdogs, and Muk is both. He's mean and evil and a giant slime and smelly, just how I like my pokemons.

6th - Flareon

One of my favorite Eeevee evolution. Flareon is a flame fluff ball with cool design. Did I mention I like fluffy things? I can't say it enough.

5th - Golem

Golem holds a special place in my heart. He's just a stupid big rock that people encounters everywhere in the caves and I swear I was the only one kid in my whole elementary school who used him in my main team. Always had fun in pokemon battles when the opponent brought out their proud Mew Two and I just suicide car bombed them out with my Golem just to troll them. Such a satisfying feeling.

4th - Pikachu

You can't spell electrocute without cute. Pikachu is fucking cute. It has cute design and cute voice. Still one of the cutest pokemon up to date. Everything design wise on Pikachu is the best choice available. They nailed it.

3rd - Bulbasaur

Did I mention that I like underdogs? The most underrated starter that some friends will just straight out laughed at you as a kid who picked Bulbasaur. It's that sad. Some official merchandises even sold Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and no Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur did nothing wrong. He is still one of the best pokemon starter ever in my heart. Hail this fucking frog.

2nd - Snorlax

The moment I encountered Snorlax lying on the path in the game, I knew I had to get him. This monster is big, fat, lazy, and silly. I love him. I always a tank guy in MMORPG games and I love everything tanky and beefy. I don't even put him in my team for the sake of winning. Just the feeling you get seeing the opponent being annoyed by him sleeping and regenerating his health bar and that they know they're wasting at least a few minutes just fighting this guy is the best. Yes, I was such a troll kid back in the days.

1st - Ditto

Still one of my most favorite pokemon up to today. I love shapeless slimy monster design like I mentioned, and I always love those anime characters that have imitation/copying abilities and Ditto is exactly that. Not just the concept is cool, but his silly face design and the fanarts people did for Ditto are amazing. He is not the best pokemon by any mean battle wise, but like I have mentioned, I don't play pokemon for the win, you geeks.

--------------------

So that was my top 10 first gen pokemons. I might do the 2nd gen, too if I feel like it.

Feel free to leave your thoughts and perhaps your own list as well. It's always fun to read what other people think especially when it's you guys who are supporting my works as a community, right?

Comments

Glad to see more bulbasaur user :) and I really like jigglypuff for how round it is too.

Fuya

Yeah!! I liked Beedrill because the Japanese name is Spear too! It's such a badass and catchy name and props to Golem and Muk on your list :)

Fuya

cool

Frank Leo

+1 for the Bulbasaur love. He swept through the early gyms with ease, and was awesome to boot. People do not give him enough love. Personal (no particular order): Raichu, Jigglypuff, Bulbasaur, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Pikachu, Eevee, Flareon, Kadabra, Hitmonchan.

Dry Vault

Oooo Gen 1 Pokemon lists! I haven't played OG Pokemon since they re-released them on the 3DS eShop and I didn't even play it for that long D: looks like it might be time to get back into it.. Here's my top 10 generation one Pokemon ^^ #10 - Koffing: They're just so derpy looking lol plus its a Poison type so its got that going for it. #9 - Pinsir: Nothing feels better than landing that lucky 'Guillotine' move and one shotting other Pokemon. #8 - Articuno: Articuno has always been one of my favorite Gen 1 Pokemon and is my favorite out of the three legendary birds. Not to mention its one of the few Ice type Pokemon in Gen 1. #7 - Golem: I've only used them in Gen 4+ but I think they're really cool. I didn't have any friends to trade with back in the day so I couldn't evolve my Gravelers into Golems T_T #6 - Farfetch'd: I don't like too many bird Pokemon but I always thought Farfetch'd was soo cute with it's little leek <3 #5 - Hitmonchan: Who doesn't like a Pokemon that can punch things to death? lol in my opinion Hitmonchan had the best movelist in Gen 1. Fire, Ice, Thunder, AND Mega Punch? Put one in every team please! #4 - Vaporeon: My go-to Eevee evolution. All the other Eevee's look all fluffy and furry. I liked how smooth and cute Vaporeon's looked! #3 - Fearow: I ain't no basic ass bitch with their Pidgeot. No one needs 2 evolutions if you can do the same with 1 evo and Drill Peck. imo Pidgey sucks, they don't even start with a Flying type move. At least Spearow starts with Peck and goes to town in Viridian Forest. #2 - Muk: Poison type Pokemon are my favorite for sure. I've never used Muk in my teams but have always wanted to. They're slippery AF. I thought 'Minimize' was the devil's work in action. I would get so salty when they raised their evasion to neigh unstoppable levels. It'll be my goal to finally Pokemon's true God(?) in my next team. #1 - Beedrill: The Ash + Butterfree storyline was great and all but Weedle was the first Pokemon I ever caught in Viridian Forest. Its so cute with its little horn and stinger. That little thing evolves into this badass Pokemon? I went on a small tear where I nicknamed all my Pokemon to their Japanese names. Beedrill's Japanese name is 'Spear'! Like come on. Its over. Beedrill's the best Pokemon ever xD

SlaveToTheSound

Glad to see you're a man of bulbasaur culture. Yeah I was sure Jolteon was the fastest pokemon in that gen (not anymore since people just breed stats crazily)

The Original Pokémon’s, which feels and probably is so long ago. I’m not completely certain of my past-self and my thoughts back then but I try to add my preferred Pokémon as I currently remember them to have been. 10 – Scyther; I liked and still do to some degree like claws in their many forms and he also had wings so he reminded me of Mantises (Duh) which I found and still to some degree find interesting. 09 – Sandslash; Similar to Scyther but he seemed like a dirty brawler and I somehow remember a lot of sand dust attacks or such from my past but I’m not sure if that was related to him. 08 – Nidoking; Not quite sure why I liked him so much back in the day as I now feel he’s a bit average/bland. 07 – Jolteon; I didn’t like the other Eve evolutions that much. Flareon was alright but Vaporeon I didn’t like at all. Jolteon though I liked quite a lot, wasn’t he also the fastest Pokémon back in the day? 06 – Mewtwo; The strongest Pokémon and although appearance wise I don’t like it that much anymore back in the day I thought it looked cool. (Or perhaps just because it was strong) 05 – Pikachu; It’s Pikacute nothing else to say to Pokémon’s main star. 04 – Haunter; Gengar is/was cool back then but I somewhat preferred Haunters appearance. 03 – Arcanine; A Dog, Wolf, Hellhound Hybrid? Perfect! 02 – Bulbasaur; My preferred Starter back in the day and I would still pick him. 01 – Alakazam; Pretty much my favorite Pokemon from that time. A strong Psychic monster and appearance wise still decent looking What I remember more vividly are my experiences with the Pokémon Arena for the N64 and Playing with our caught Pokémon in 3D.

Setsunai Seken

Rhyhorn is awesome but I'd put Rhyperior on my top 10 of that gen when I reach it so I kinda skipped Rhyhorn just because of that!

Fuya

I was debating with myself whether I'd put Arcanine or Gengar as 10th lol and Lapras could be in my top 20 for sure if I were to expand it.

Fuya

Man, you said your picks would be generic but aside from Charizard and Mew Two your list is pretty unique. I've never seen anyone putting Arbok or Parasect as their favorite pokemons before and you have good reasoning. That's cool. Also yeah Hypno has a lot of fanarts of them lewding pokemon girls lol

Fuya

A fairly unique list. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of underdogs but I like a lot of the picks you went with. Ninetails makes my list for pretty much the same reasons you listed and I think it's pretty cool that you included the slimes and Beedrill. For me, out of the 1st 151, my favorites might be somewhat generic. While mine may include some the more powerful types, I'm a big fan of the creepy and the villainous as well. 10. Aerodactyl - I really was/am a fan of dragons. While Aerodactyl isn't really one I've always felt it was close enough. More of Wyvern but still really cool. 9. Kabutops - Another one of the fossil Pokemon. I dig scythes and it's got them for hands. It's also more creepy than Scyther which is a big selling point. 8. Marowak - I just really like the Marowak story and am a huge fan of ghosts, the occult, and death (lol). Anything even loosely connected to these things is a plus in my book. I prefer the newer Alolan version but OG Marowak is still really awesome as well. I hate that you gotta farm for it's Thick Club to make it do damage, though. 7. Arbok - I love snakes and they are hella under appreciated in Pokemon almost all of them suck meta-wise and there just aren't enough of them imo. 6. Hypno - Love it's creepy lore and all the potential (lewd) mayhem one could cause with it's power. 5. Parasect - Parasites are a fave of mine in fiction, due to the body horror aspect as well as a general creepiness they exude. Parasect is rather dark for an inclusion into the original series but that makes it all the better for me. Those white glazed-over eyes... 4. Ninetails - As you said, it majestic and downright beautiful. It's also has connections with ghosts and the occult so it's tangentially related with ghosts. You always find Vulpix in cemeteries and both of them can learn Will-o-Wisp. 3. Haunter - I've always found it's design more creepy and compelling when compared to Gengar. Being one of the few true ghosts in the first generation, Haunter will always be one of my faves from this generation. Ghost-types generally have some of the best lores, and interesting abilities. Later on in the generations I always try to include a bunch on my team whenever possible. 2. Charizard - Here's where everything gets generic, lol. Like I said with Aerodactyl, I really to like dragons and it's a real shame it took so long for Charizard to become one. Great design and I'm a sucker for it's hype. Always found it funny that Nintendo/Gamefreak like to pair it with the hero considering it's what you would expect a villain or an anti-hero to use. 1. Mewtwo - While it is the "strongest" that's not necessarily my reason for it's placement. As I said I love the villains and Mewtwo is always that cool final fight in almost everything it's in. It's got amazing lore and I love every iteration of it.

Reficul Terumi

So much nostalgia, it almost hurts... but I definitely enjoyed the 1st and 2nd generation pokemon the most. Jolteon, Dragonite, Gengar, Lapras, Charizard and Alakazam were my favorites (●´ω`●)

Exhorbiiii

Those are some choice picks for sure. Kanto sure has some good pokemon designs (although I might be biased). My favorite from kanto are Vaporeon, Rapidash, Dewgong, Fearow, Haunter, Rhyhorn, and probably ditto as well.
