Super Unrelated Blog 03 : Childhood Games

Just found this gem of an image I made years ago by gathering up games that I used to play and spent sooooo much time on each of them back in the days. I grew up with these games. It crafted my whole self as a child.

Will talk about some specific one later if you guys are interested.

Do you share any of these with me? Want to know your childhood games too. I believe we grew up in a very distanced gaming part of the world so some of my favorites, you probably never heard of, and some of yours, I might have no idea at all. I might have skipped some of them, but these are what I could think of. Some of them is not even that old though.

And yes, the blogs' names keep changing. I don't even remember what name I came up with in the first blog.

Wow our path were pretty much going in the opposite direction lol thinking about this is funny. I started out with JRPG, RPG, MMORPG, animes and stuffs then later moved on to Western games and RTS, then just half a year ago I started trying Minecraft and love it. If you are into racing games, I think you'd like Dirt 4, and the new Gran Turismo coming out looks promising.

Fuya

I started with Duck hunt on the Original Nintendo then moved to Mario Brothers and the Mario World games (my brother was awesome at them). Then my brother got a Gameboy Classic and bought Pokémon Blue Version from a friend and now I have all of the Pokémon games. I got big into pc gaming with Age of Empires II and moved into Runescape, which I still play today. We got an original Xbox and I played tf out of MechAssault and MechAssault Lonewolf and also got into racing games, as Forza 2 came with the console, as well as getting into Battlefront 2 (I'm glad they made a remastered edition for Xbox One). When Minecraft came out, that was the only thing I played for a while until my brothers started getting into the more complex mod packs (Technic, FeedTheBeast Ultimate, Skyfactory 2, etc.). I then started moving back towards the MMORPG genre again (ESO, Black Desert Online recently, Wynncraft). I have lots of games I haven't started yet because I became an anime otaku after my brother introduced me to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. But that's a story for another day...

I've never seen a real life Atari once lol you're so lucky to be in that era. Glad to know you're a JRPG fan and the games you mentioned made me feel nostalgic, and yeah RO was a really big thing where I live. They tried to reboot the server but the same hype didn't happen and it kinda died down over time which is sad. I also used to love Secret of Mana like all of the earlier ones from that series are great.

Fuya

I've played way too many games ever since the Atari 2600. Mario was a big influence in my life but the biggest influence was RPGS, mainly the Squaresoft games back in the day. Final Fantasy III SNES, Secret of Mana, SaGa Frontier to name a few. Then there was Suikoden II, the Breath of Fire series, Super Mario RPG. I absolutely loved Ragnarok Online and sometimes log on to see what's new. I started that game back in 2004 after Class 2-2 came out (Crusader, Sage, Monk, Alchemist, Bard/Dancer, Rogue). I've played off and on throughout the years and don't regret playing that game.

Glad to hear you share many childhood games with me. I'm personally not a super big fan of FPS games too. Not that I dislike the genre, but I tend to suck at them lol. I can't aim for good. Not a Nintendo fan either. Aside from the SNES genre I didn't own any Nintendo console. Just handhelds like Gameboy, GBA, then NDS so Nintendo is not a super childhood memories to me like the others. I guess it goes pretty much the same way in all over my country. I know soooo few ppl owning N64 or Dreamcast back in the days. I will talk about WC3 later. I was so into map making community and created various WC3 maps and it was fun. That game taught me so much stuffs and brought me a new mindset.

Hi Fuya, Now that’s an interesting topic :3 I played games as far as I can remember. From the ones you posted I played Pokémon (obviously) Dungeon Keeper (such a great game), Ragnarok Online, Starcraft, Age of Empires, GTA, Warcraft (another classic) Diablo and Prince of Persia and I don’t think I need to mention again why most of those games were and are still great. But apart from those the games that really stuck with me and I still fondly remember are the Sonic games, KKnD, the Command & Conquer series, Civilization, and a game I still play occasionally today Baldur’s Gate there are much more that I also still cherish but those are some of the most memorable for me. I wasn’t much of a Nintendo child I mostly was and still am (thankfully) a PC person I got an N64 which also had a lot of fun and great games but switched to the X-Box and then PS3 later. I honestly just bought the PS3 for the Hyperdimension games as well as some others like Disgaea, Tales of Grace and the like which marks my final descent into the eastern hemisphere. In the past during my school time Warcraft 3 was the (s)hit I and my friends would meet online after school and do team games or Fun Maps. I think one of our favorites was Vampirism and Tower defense and well later there was WoW and EVERYONE played that as well….ahhh fun times. Right now I play what I feel like and jump between my favorite games depending on my mood and sometimes a new game. Games I still regularly play are the Dark soul Series, Skyrim heavily modded of course xD, League of Legend, Dragons Dogma, and a few others. That reminds me I never was much into shooters or fighting games I played a few like HALO 1 and 2 or the likes which probably is one reason why my mechanical play aint that great in comparison. Ah, I’m getting extremely long again sorry. T_T But I’m also curious to hear more about that specific game you mentioned, which seems to be WC3. I’m looking forward to it. :3

WC3 is the game that made me a me today. Might actually talk about that in the next blog lol. Yu Yu Hakusho was epic. It was a root to many of the action mangas/animes coming out in the present days and the game was great!

Fuya

I didn't play any of these games lol. I remember my brother talking about Warcraft 2 and 3, but I never played 2 and only played 3 briefly. I sure as hell recognize YuYu Hakusho in the corner there though! I loved that show as a kid. I forgot there was a game for it.

Ty

So many great JRPG you have played! I love Breath of Fire 3 but never finished it since I was too young playing that game. Lunar 2 and mega man legends were great too!

Fuya

Great list I share a fair amount of these with you especially harvest moon, mega man x, warcraft and the suikoden series. Some of my personal favorites games and ones that are the most nostalgic to me are Lunar 2 eternal blue (and 1), breath of fire 3, mega man legends, chrono cross, earthbound and Mario rpg and then legend of legaia series.

hiro armada

Haha glad I helped you getting nostalgic. I wish they keep making new Dungeon Keeper games.

Fuya

Dungeon Keeper was such a great game. I'm tempted to load it up again after seeing that image!

Diablo 2 was an era! To me, Diablo 3's community can't even compare. We didn't even have a real "community" back then but I felt like Diablo 2's player base is more of a community than what we have today lol

Fuya

Diablo 2 was a game of time! Bushido Blade... not many friends played it but i LOVED it. a real fight, one fatal hit and you were dead! A game i loved was The Bouncer.... 4 player connector for the ps2!!!

Sounds super fun! Man, I wish me and my highschool friends were still in touch, but most of them don't play games anyway and my present friends live so far away together. Back in the days, grouping up and play fighting games together was hella fun

Fuya

I think they still make new Harvest Moon games once in a while, but most of them go to 3DS and merged with Rune Factory over time. To me, the PS1 Harvest Moon was the best.

Fuya

XD

Fuya

Bushido Blade is legendary! Destruction Derby is pretty fun with friends too

Fuya

I basically grew up with games. After school (especially on weekends) me and my friends would meet up and spend our pocket money on lots of them (few of them are Mario Party, Mario Kart, Super Smash and several Pokemon games but we also played some games like Halo, GTA SA and VC though we weren't actually allowed to play them; it was totally fun ₍₍ (ง ˙ω˙)ว ⁾⁾). Personally a few titles I can remember and actually liked playing were Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Tekken and almost every FF game released on PS2. Even now, I still try to keep in touch with my old childhood friends and if the schedule allows it, we'd play some games together(*゚∀゚*)

Exhorbiiii

For me it was almost unkown games in Europe : Tobal 2 (Fighting game from SquareSoft) Bushido Blade 2 (Fighting game from SquareSoft) Alundra (RPG) Destruction Derby 2 (Racing) Syphon Filter (Action-Platformer) ^.^

Harvest Moon sure brings a lot of memories. It would be really nice to have a new Harvest Moon Game.

Raven Heart

I suck at Mario for some reason and I was struggling so much I ended up stopped playing any Mario games XD but Mario Kart games are great.

Fuya

The lack of mario games in your youth is disappointing xD

Mato
