Kono~suba Poll

Possible future comic based on the response. What did you think of the Konosuba Anime?

Comments

There is a bit more comedy than romance but the rom I feel is a big part of the series. I mean the meet~cute happens in episode 2 and the rest of the season involved developing/elaborating on their relationship and nudging them together. :3

Not sure I'd classify MMO Junkie as a romantic comedy as much as just an outright comedy. The rom-com elements don't really begin in earnest until about halfway through, after all.

I can't really remember anything especially funny besides a few slips from the anime though. I dunno there are ways to handle overpowered protagonists besides having them Kirito (Kirito is more insufferable though) through the entire anime hah. Maybe I just didn't understand why all those girls liked him besides he was nice to them. xD I heard it's getting a 2nd season so hopefully the writing gets improved. Hmmmm as far as romcom animes go I'd say I like Ore Monogatari, Gamers! and Recovery of an MMO Junkie (the last 2 aren't perfect but I still enjoyed them).

Yeah, I'll admit things are too easy on the lead in Smartphone, but then you consider the entire basis of the series is that the guy's got GOD backing him up and it, and that it's not meant to be anything dramatic and it works a lot better. At the end of the day, Smartphone is romantic comedy, everything else is secondary. And when looked at like that...It's pretty well assembled. (and I speak as someone who generally HATES romantic comedies - Smartphone is one of only three rom-com anime I like) Weak ending is IMO Smartphone's biggest failure. I hate it when anime just "stop" rather than "ending." (Wagaya no Oinari-sama was SO GOOD up until that "ending"....)

Formulafox

Yeah I've seen Smartphone before. I didn't think it was bad but I didn't like it especially much. Things were just too easy for the main character and there was no real sense of tension or urgency. I mean if there is a season 2 I'll probably watch it to see if it develops but the main character really needs work (I'm sure it's more of a sloppy translation from the Light Novel). I mean he doesn't really have a personality besides "He's a nice guy, kinda indecisive, with a modest interest in women." which isn't really a personality? He hasn't really shown any motivations or goals besides "______ asked us to check out ______ so we might as well.". I remember the last episode could be summed up as simply "Alright I guess you all can marry me." hah.

More than just "a few." Callbacks and running gags in general don't bother me, it's when they're too frequent, have no variation, and are just lazy. Using an anime of similar concept, In Another World With My Smartphone features a rather specific running joke that, by it's nature, CAN'T really have any variation, but they keep it's usage infrequent and it's a rather well thought out bit - it's the hero's single most effective ability, but he actively avoids using it so he doesn't get complacent. He only uses it when he genuinely has nothing else of use, which keeps it spread out, shows how much thought went into it, and rarely is it telegraphed that it's coming, so it usually catches you off guard. (by contrast, by episode 3 I could predict every joke in Konosuba before it happened) I highly recommend Smartphone.

Yeah I think there are a ton of fandoms like that, who can't take any form of response besides pure fanboy level praise. I personally enjoy how the main cast bounces off of each other but I can understand why you dislike the call backs (there are a few lol).

Morphy

Utter crap. Started out mildly funny, but couldn't stop itself from recycling the same jokes over and over and over with no variation to keep them fresh. I gave the series the entire first season, but when I tried to start the second season and saw them recycle the giant frog bit AGAIN, I threw it out. Complete waste of time of a show. What's worse, I merely dislike the show itself, but it's fanbase absolutely CANNOT accept the idea of a dissenting opinion and the sheer stupidity they spout in response to the mere hint that someone doesn't consider it to be the greatest thing ever has turned my mere dislike into outright hatred. People really need to get over themselves on this stuff.

Formulafox

I'd say give the anime a shot before giving up on the series. I haven't ready the manga though so I can't attest to it's quality compared with the anime.

Morphy

Not seen the anime, read the manga and couldn't get into it too much cause I disliked the main character, but tempted to watch the anime at some point to see if I'd like that lol
