Putting out my monthly update, the big news is that the game release is being pushed to next month. Probably isn't a surprise given how late this update post is coming out in the month. My workplace had me pull several hour of overtime the past few weeks which cemented the fact that I wouldn't get the release out. The good news is that I have the next two weeks off, in which I plan to get in as much dev time as possible.
Game wise, I have been making more progress on updates to existing content. A lot of my focus continues to be on the system updates mentioned in the previous months. With this in mind, instead of rehashing the same information I wanted to share some new things such as new npc art, new chibi enemies, new tileset sprites, and finally a much needed optimization to the game files.
Starting with the new art, I had Bastet redone. She plays a vital point to the neko story as well as has some unique hyperpreg art done by Himitsu. I commissioned Himitsu to create an updated version of her as well as had Lunarpix do the color art. Overall I like how it came out and look forward to share it in game. Fun fact, Bastet's original art done by Lunarpix was my very first commission for the game. Outside of Bastet we have some new art of the ceder town mayor's wife. Also shown here is another adoptable from Lunarpix that I plan to add into the game, likely in the brasswall outskirts zone.
New chibi's include a new dragon gal that you can encounter in the dragon isle island outskirts. There will be a red, green, and blue version depending on the island you are on. The ghost maid in the mansion now has a chibi. There will be a few zones in the next major build where she will be present as well. Updated the bat gal as well, while there is current pregnant art of the bat gal when using the fertile blessing skill, this will feature a base enemy and preg enemy when using the skills. The previous bat girl will be used as a unique npc. Finally the alrune enemies you encounter in the game now have there own chibi as well. I want to mention that new sprites have been made to reflect the new art of the enemies in game too.
Speaking of sprites... I have been working on implementing some new overworld sprites into the game. The goal with this is to make the various zones you encounter in the game feel a little more unique then repeat default rpg maker asset over and over again. Some examples will be shown here but expect to see some of your familiar zones touched up with a few unique tile sets to make the zones stand out a bit more.
Now on to the boring details... file optimization. This likely won't be shown in game at all but I am going though and updating the file names to the various art assets in the game. With this in mind, this too means I have to update the file pathing in game so that you don't get the missing file errors. While it would be easy to leave things be... there are several unused files though out the game. Many from the early days of development that changed to new assets or from me testing something in game and forgetting I left it in. The end result of this will be having the games files more organized which will aid in development a bit. It will also likely reduce the game size on release as well as I remove unused assets too.
Overall that is the update so far this month. To summarize, IRL work life threw a lot at me this month which hindered development but now I have the next two weeks off to catch up. Continuing work on existing systems as mentioned last month. Lots of new art assets made for the game and optimizing game files. With the next couple of weeks off, I should have the time I need to get things done. I'm expecting to send out test build to a few trusted individuals early January and then have the early build out mid to late January. Once the early build is out, expect a week or two before the full build is uploaded on itch.io. I will post the early build here once it's ready next month for those of you who want to play and aid in some degree of bug testing. Thank you again and hope your holidays go well!
