Lazy Tutorial - Warbles!

So I didn't really mean to make this tutorial right now, but my interview on Blender Today yesterday made me realize I hadn't released one in a while, and this one's been burning a hole in my pocket, so here we go! It's just such a convenient way to add randomness to... like basically everything, and it works equally great in eevee and cycles!

Lazy Tutorial - Warbles!

Hey , these warbles are killing it man ! Quick question , on your Blendcon Presentation , i notice you shown a part where you had to image project a car , at first glance i was like WOAH ! Yeah , i was trying to do it myself , i made it on the side profile of the car , but when it comes to the front and back i totally blew it . On geometrical shapes i kinda got it , but organic shape . How would you tackle it ? Thanks a bunch IAN !

Yeah! It's super cool, def not usable with Xbox's as far as I know, just a really good depth camera. We built an immersive art piece, an interactive sandbox that represents Guatemala (I can pm you pics if you'd like, unfortunately the announcement event was cancelled cuz... uh. virus scariness). No other plans on the horizon at the moment, but we've got some ideas for mobile volumetric capture, and easy mocap similar to the new iPhone/iPad ish. Not sure yet if Kinect will end up being the best option though. Hope you're having a wonderful Easter weekend!

I watched the whole Blender Today video (normally I just skip through it because of time) and I just wanted to add that I don't think your one minute tutorials lead to frustration because it gives an impression that what you show is "easy". In my case it had the opposite effect. Most of the stuff may be outside my skill range but it still showed me how totally daunting stuff could theoretically be done and that's kind of reassuring?

Carkoon

Wait they're still improving the kinect?? That's awesome! I thought it was technology they hadn't really touched since 2011 or something. So it's not really oriented for Xbox anymore- mostly just the folks who were going nuts with it? That's really cool. What type of stuff are you doing with it? Also oh hey Sam! Haha

Ian Hubert

Hey thanks!!! It's been a wild month!! :D

Ian Hubert

Yes, thanks! So handy! I was kicking myself for not including that in the tutorial... but hopefully it introduced somebody to the usefulness of the vector mapping node?? haha! Somebody else just told me you can set to keyframes to automatically extend linearly by hitting "Shift+E", which I knew worked in the graph editor, but I didn't realize you could just use it in the timeline! I love it.

Ian Hubert

Ah, thanks Carter! And yeah Joshua, what type of building are you trying to make, out of curiosity??

Ian Hubert

AH! Thanks for the info! I knew about #frame (for animating the noise seed), but I didn't know you could multiply it by stuff! That's a great tip. Also oh man I've tried to dig myself into drivers so many times. They look so useful, but at the last second I always veer off and find some other way to do it.

Check out the Lazy Tutorials for Post-Apocalyptic Cities, Buildings, Cities, and Custom Buildings—plus if you scroll back on the Patreon here there's some videos you might find helpful, like maybe the Convenience Store Modeling video?

Carter Burr-Kirven

Thank you so much 💪🏾💪🏾 And just a question do you have a building model tutorial up?

This was commented on YouTube but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it here as well, If you change the musgrave texture to 4D you can use the W value instead of the mapping node! learned that from blender guru

Also, great work on the videos.

Another, more automated way to "animate" that Z location would be to instead of keyframing that value type '#frame' into it (this will now output the value of the current frame and turn the property purple) then multiply that by a really small number. So when you click on that purple property you should have something like this 'frame * 0.001' (you don't need to add a # as this is used to create the driver for the first time (you can also just hover over a property and hit CTRL + D which does the same thing as the # (but now you've dug yourself into Drivers, Yay))).

awesome!

So not totally related, but was watching your Blender Today interview and you mentioned kinects... and they are indeed making even cooler ones now! My team and I actually used the most recent one here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/azure-kinect-dk/8pp5vxmd9nhq?activetab=pivot%3aoverviewtab They've improved it a TON over the last few years, we used it in February for a client project immersive sandbox, twas a TON of fun. Also sidebar lol, the gent managing all the hardcore tech stuff is my friend and coworker Sam, the dude that made AE2Blend :-) Thanks for consistent rad content!!!

Congrats on 1000 patreons

Amazing stuff!!

Now I want to eat raisins. And also add musgrave to everything. And then eat them too.

Nathan Vegdahl

Wow, I didn't know this. Hilarious voice-over as always :-D

Jan van den Hemel

thank u king. absolute slam-dunk of a tutorial as always

it's that guy!

Ah yeah!! It'll appear in the graph editor too, if you want more fine-tuned control! (you ALSO have to have the object selected, which is generally already happening, but just a heads up). Also- did I ever hit send on that message to you I've had sitting in an open tab for like 2 weeks?? I gotta do that!

Ian Hubert

Loove it! Great interview too!

Phillip Park

"Blender Today" Yeterday! lol

Jake Carvey

THATS how get the keyframe to show up! I was trying to change the key-framed World brightness from constant to linear (to fade to black) but I couldn’t figure out how to SEE the key frames to change the interpolation so I rekeyed everything after changing the “default” animation as linear... it didn’t occur to me to go into Node view and click on the node itself... Thank you for throwing that in there!

Hahaha lol now with raisins....

shonal bose

Awesome Ray-Sins!

JØRGEN WETAAS BULL

Finally raisins like they should look!
