Not Your Seed / Show Stoppin Number - TGWDLM

This was supposed to be all of act2 today but then my leg issues started acting up... Final two episodes hopefully very soon!

Comments

Hi I know this is already a few months old but I can tell from what you said that the song you were thinking of from Something Rotten was “A Musical” and the specific line was the ending: “And for some unexplainable reason, the crowd goes wild every time, when dancers kick in unison in one big wonderful line”

Sarah Rodrigues

You missed a pretty funny joke from the scene before Hidgens got eaten!

My favourite part about the “bam bam we’re the army” bit at the end of the highschool scene is that we see later on in the show that they have a gunshot effect on hand that they can use, but they still chose to have Joey Ad-Lib his own sound effects for some reason

Star ⭐️

"I'm sorry, it's the end of the world and your pitch is homoerotic cryptobros?" GOD that killed me

Paradoxgavel

Not sure if someone (probably Mason at this point) would’ve said, but yeah Not Your Seed has some fun time signature changes. Beginning in 12/8, then a single bar of 5/8 cos why not, then 6/8, that bit repeats then pre chorus and chorus in 4/4. I LIIIIVE for funky time signatures

PugglePug735

You bringing up Danny Motta made me giggle cuz my brain went to the same exact place hahaha. I actually found you through him, and I'm so glad I did! You've quickly become one of my favorite content creators ♥

Kally

Being very annoyed Ted is tied up next to Emma is hilarious real life marriages considered

Dragonscalesofold

Omg you’re doing ride the cyclone! I played Constance last September and it was the best time. So excited for your reaction!!

Calie💕

"I agree, stand up to Trump, but not in this video"... because we're saving it for America Is Great Again in the next video

Smee

I highly recommend rewatching the last 15 seconds before the Hitchens puppet is brought out

Noah Quilantan

“Is this musical based on his real life??” Oh, buddy… Working Boys is on YouTube, so you can find out for yourself lol

Daniel Wilson

I love your reaction to show stopping numbers I had a similar one 😅 My favorite is not your seed

Danielle Lockwood

I think when the alien trio said that Paul defied them thrice they were talking about the other encounters he had with them within the story. Since it's a hive mind, every time he escaped any of the different musical aliens it would have counted as him escaping a single being.

Sardonicus S

I love GWDLM and Nerdy Prudes, but for some reason I've *never* been able to make it through Black Friday - despite loving all the people in it. Perhaps If Mortius watches it I'll be less distracted.

Hanon Ondricek

OMG Ride the Cyclone! I hope he watches the off-Broadway pro-shot. Also: I subscribed to YouTube Premium for no ads and it's much cheaper than when I was paying for Netflix and barely watching it.

Hanon Ondricek

The fact that I thought of a totally different jazz song that sounds a lot like show stopping number is mildly hilarious and also kind of the point I guess 🤣 (For Once In My Life, for the curious 🤣)

Ashley Evers

Definitely and calling Deb a hardcore stoner was just a lie based on her last scene getting Alice away from the smoke club. Even if she smokes she clearly has restraint.

Somedude Watchintv

Me every time I get angry but remember I have a family friendly channel: https://youtu.be/cb9--sapETE?si=AByFgrRQ13MQADsY

Mortius

I suddenly want to hear Mortius scream Mr Torgue stuff. Even just the Badass Crater of Badassitude intro scene.

Somedude Watchintv

I see some people mention Nightmare Time as something he needs to watch but I personally think that it's better to watch the trilogy first before diving into it. I personally had a better time watching all three and then getting the details from nightmare time afterwards.

FrankieLacrimae

This might have been mentioned somewhere else but I just want to let you know that apparently the reason Mariah, Jaime, and Lauren's characters had to keep "messing up" their syncronized lines was because it helped them keep everything else synced up. I think having a breaking point helped them split it up. I'm glad you noticed that Bill is a good supportive dad! It's a big thing that people noticed but is never made a big deal in the show - he doesn't have a problem with his daughter being queer, he thinks that she deserves someone better. I think it's really nice also that they never make a big deal of it either because, while it's a big deal for queer kids and people, it should be the standard for parents.

Alexandra

one thing I really appreciate rewatching this musical is catching all the little ways that Professor Hidgens's love of musicals is shown early (i.e. calling it the opening 16 bars, his little speech when the meteor crashed) and it provides really good foreshadowing

Charlie

Their usually good about watching the bows

Shay-Thelogicaldreamer

Also! i dont know if this has been mentioned to you before. But PLEASE watch the credits on camera!! I don't remember if you usually do or not but the credits are GOOD YOU REALLY SHOULD WATCH THEM

Kelsea Wright

Based on what I looked up of the lyrics I'm pretty sure it really is "not at all your seed", I think that's just yet another example of the captions being weird. Love bill too, he's one of my favorite characters from tgwdlm (watcher world is my favorite nightmare time episode even with the roughness)

The Dormouse

Someone’s told Mortius about the Nightmare time short shows, right? Because those are an important aspect of the Hatchetfield lore

Robin A-Bear

understandable to miss it in the midst of everything else but i’m sad you missed the “i’ll get the piano!” gag at the end because it kills me every time lmao

fizzycolalizzie

I find it funny that you were critiquing Ted for getting into Professor Hidgin's number, but by the end, you were also sucked in. It's just so energetic

Allison Watts

Omg! Ive seen this show 1000 times and I’ve never noticed that.

Ink Inc

You were so invested in the musical signiture that you didn't notice infected Alice wipes away a tear from Bills face! Its so heartbreaking

Trash Goblin

I did NOT need that heartbreak today, how have I never noticed this?

Fire Breathing Dragon

Omg thank you for the rant on not making fun of people's appearance even if they're horrible people, I've been thinking that a lot and it bothers me, like if there are actually horrible and dumb things they did make fun of that instead of resorting to bully talk about appearances and other stuff that doesn't hurt anyone

Nika

Someone has almost certainly mentioned this already, but they actually have made Workin’ Boys as a short film now and if you want to see more of the score and this how unhinged the professor can be

playing-the-Lady-Rebel

Why reward YouTube for being obnoxious with an excessive amount of ads? Just use AdBlock at that point

Nika

Did only I recognize that melody? "Why does it hurt to love you?" "Why does it hurt to love?" "I want to know your story." "I want to know your past."

KriszGamer00

You can't know just how happy I was to get home from a packed Friday shift to see this upload! I listened to this musical for the last hour and on my way home, actually. My craving and appreciation for Starkid continues. I absolutely love Bill, he's just a lil bit of a prude himself, and obviously protective. I love that he never once gets on Alice's case for having a girlfriend, he's just worried that Deb's one of those 'up to no good' kids. What is nutty is that I thought the lyric was 'I'm not at all your seed!' at the end, but it's 'Now I own your seed'?? That's horrific! Paul 'defying the aliens thrice' took place in just that day's timeframe, but it would be insane if the aliens were at the Brigadoon show, Godspell and every other musical he had to see. General John McNamara , while having an amazing name, is one of my favorite fictional characters... ever. Also, Captions Lord, it's 'Fill up your tumbler' 'cause he's old timey and that's what you drink out of, not 'Feel up your tumblr' like you're Just a chronically online Man. Mortius, we /must/ make time for Workin' Boys. Henry Hidgens and his six boyfriends on the football field. That being said, I pity the Professor quite a bit 'cause I know the lore now. I hope your leg stops giving you trouble. Have a good rest!

Kory Misun

Which one is that one? The Ruth one?

Wolfan Terror

Honey at this point just pay for YouTube Premium 😂 the cost of that won’t be much in comparison to Patreon profits x

Something for you to know about the Hatchetfield trilogy is that in each show there is a song that is written in a "play within the play" style/format. In TGWDLM that song is Show Stoppin' Number, where the Professor pitches a musical he's written with a snippet of the fictional show. The method of the "play within a play" song is different in each show, and has a different purpose within each show. These "play within a play" formatted songs are some of the most earworm-y to me, and the one in NPMD is genuinely one of my favorite songs in the whole trilogy

Critical Devil

Only the first one was done live over Zoom, the rest were done live for the cast and they recorded their parts with hd cameras so the quality jump after Episode 1 and especially in Season 2 is crazy! I hope he responds to it sometime

Dave Ballinger

I'm sure several people have brought this up, but sometime after Black Friday (the 2nd musical) came out, the first season of Nightmare Time came out. It's got less musicality to it, and instead presents as more of a live acted reading of a creepypasta or short horror story (over a zoom call, because covid was a thing and their theater was closed for the time) They're not necessary for enjoying the musicals at all (I watched all 3 musicals before touching the stories) but they can help make the world feel bigger and more lived in and internally consistent. I for one wouldn't mind listening/watching you react to Nightmare Time stories, but it's a massive change of pace from just watching the muscials. But events in NT reference or give deeper lore to how hatchetfield works in the stories and musicals (they're not actually a sequence of events. It's separate, unrelated stories set in the same town setting. Sort of an anthology.) So I would recommend watching at least the first season of NT before Nerdy Prudes Must Die (because that's when that one came out). Either on your own time, on a side channel/main channel, or right here as patreon exclusive content for your lovely patrons! the stories are great and range from generally unsettling to existential horror comedy to genuinely wholesome.

So what i love about Not Your Seed is that I believe it's the alien fungus deliberately using Alice's memories to say the most hurtful things to Bill to discourage and demoralize him. I doubt Alice's last thoughts were actually blaming Bill for her situation, she just said that to drive him to recklessness, which worked. It's why she constantly goes for the jugular, blaming him for the custody situation and telling him about Deb, and why she has those two slower parts with the lyrics that just rip your heart out. Maybe Alice had thought some of those thoughts at some point, but I think alien!Alice just used that information to cause Bill as much psychic damage as possible to mess him up and make him careless, saying anything at all to get him to crack.

Dani

Since you're a fan of returning themes in music, I'd suggest remembering "Look what happens nightmare time" ;) The nightmare time theme is an *essential* part of Hatchetfield 💞

EngelDraws

I think when the aliens say that Paul and them has met three times before, they were saying within the musical, Paul has escaped being recruited by them three times. First one was on "La Dee Dah Dah Day" with Greenpeace girl, Second was during "What Do You Want Paul" with his boss, and then third was with Sam/Charlotte in "Join Us and Die". One could argue that they also met during "Cup of Roasted Coffee" but that was more for Emma than Paul, "Show me your Hands" was more for Charlotte cause she called Sam there

JovialGuy

Just FYI, “Working Boys” is an actual short show now on Starkid’s channel. Not part of the main trilogy but more of an extra Nightmare Time sort of show.

Jennee

I think that’s just a joke for the sake of the reprise and breaking the fourth wall. Not that it’s going to have anything to do with the musical, just a joke for the trailer.

Jennee

So happy to see this go up! I was wondering how long before we got an Epic reference in this show, lol. Here is a fun fact: In a BTS, they said the creepy unison dialogue from Alice and the girls originally didn't have the mess ups. They were added in because the actresses had a hard time saying the lines correctly and it was funnier with the mess ups. This in turn made the dialogue even harder to say. Lol.

Lizzy C-Drake

Honestly the main thing I'm hoping for on the reworked version is that the captions won't have so many errors, glad you caught what Hidgens actually said that one's rough lmao. I liked the sidebar music analysis on Not Your Seed it was fun! Also please remember to watch through the credits / bows when you get to the end of act 2!

The Dormouse

Don't hurt yourself for our sake please. This was wonderful. I was WAITING for you to get to Show Stopping Number. Fun fact! They are planning on redoing this show and Professor Hidgens will be played by Will Branner who I just saw as Orin in Little Shop!! He is also an important character in the third show of the series, Nerdy Prudes Must Die. He killed it, for the record, pun intended.

Charlie Fisher

Ok, im at time stamp 1950ish when you asked if Paul has experienced this before. Now watching the trailer for this musical kickstarter or reboot for this summer... ... you got me asking this question, because the trailer made it seem like paul was experiencing a groundshog day time loop [for anyone unaware, search up the movie groundhogs day and watch it, and you will understand my reference]. I can't wait too see what starkid does this summer to answer this question, if they answer it at all

Seraphina Stardust

I'm so happy!!! I was waiting for more of this ! Thanks :)

LettyStar

This was so good! I love your reactions. And I fully agree with the end chronic pain sucks. I’m impressed you stand for these I definitely could not stand for as long as these episodes are. Hope you feel better soon. On a side note I’m very excited for rode the cyclone and Cinderellas Castle when you get to it!

Sophia Barsness

Showstopping number is one of the best songs haha it gets stuck in my head all the time lol

Shay-Thelogicaldreamer

LETS GOOOOO!!!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!!

Rebecca

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this to you previously, but while the singing from the infected is diegetic, the music isn't. Which makes all the musical numbers so much more terrifying from the characters point of view. And also explains why we still hear the piano in Show Stopping Number even after the professor stops playing.

Birdy K.

Rest in sheep bill, great music!

Morrighan

"This show cannot decide whether to keep me traumatized or laughing" welcome to Hatchetfield!

Ace

I'm pretty sure "you have defied us thrice" is in reference to the amount of times they've tried and failed to infect him over the course of the show (like with Mr. Davidson, the coffee shop, and with Sam/the cops).

Ace

Yes I look forward to more Starkid content. I can't wait until Ride The Cyclone too!

ShockedCorgi

WOOOOOO more tgwdlm! I love act two, and Mortius reactions always manage to make me love a media even more, so I’m so excited.

l3erryPipsqueak

YESSSS!! I hope your leg gets to feeling better!

Michelle Stewart

I WAS LITERALLY SITTING LOOKING AT THE PATREON WAITING FOR THIS LESSGOOO!!!!!
