Lullaby for a Princess | Unedited Reaction

Comments

This show was pretty much the start for an entire generation of musicians, including some AGT performers like Black Gryph0n and Baasik, aka the Brown Brothers, just a while back. Despite the show's up-front premise it tends to dive into some of the best plots I've seen in 25 years of television. Pair it with musical numbers by extremely talented composers and its later seasons actually having grown-up fans as writers for a pretty spectacular wrap up, and it's no wonder why G4 (FiM) fans are still begging for new seasons to this very day.

The moon rises would be a good follow up reaction. See things from Luna's perspective.

Xinrecorn

I throughly giggled at the Jeff the Land Shark cover πŸ˜‚

Toga_UwU

Please do check out MLP!

Toga_UwU

All of the animation for this was hand drawn and painted with watercolor :3

Listen. As a thirty-something, all I can say is that there is absolutely a reason MLP:FiM was such a THING in the early-mid 2010s. I went through a big pegasister/brony phase myself. (Part of this is just that I grew up watching the 80s stuff with my mom and also really have a thing about unicorns, but I digress.) I also feel like its success with a larger YA/Adult audience than expected really kicked open the doors for some of the amazing animated series we've had in more recent years. So, yeahβ€”I would say the series is worth a watch, though it does have its flaws as the show goes on and has some seasonal rot issues. That said, it's a real good feels type of show, has some fantastic music, and a really likeable cast of characters. Also, as you can see, the fan content is INCREDIBLE.

Macabrellian

Yes you definitely need to check MLP out! It's surprisingly deep as the seasons progresses! Was on of my favorite shows as a kid

Iris Evan

I would say personally that MLP STARTS "good for a kids show" but because of the massive support from its older audience just gets better and more mature as it goes. it's the type of show where by the final few seasons they manage to get away with A LOT in terms of more mature themes that the network would never let a shorter running show with less prestige get away with.

The CLaUD

"If i knew about, and cared for these charecters I would be sobbing" *me sobbing* "I know"

aj knows

Not to possibly cause even more emotions on an already emotional scene, but if you're looking at it, Celestia(the white one), has been tucking Luna(the blue one) in to bed for ages... and continues to, in a way, tuck her in, as she lowers the moon below the horizon...

James StClair

God, I used to listen to this beauty on LOOP when it first came out. You know the music and lyrics are hitting juuuust right when Mortius starts hugging the mic for emotional strength xD

Hayley Miller

Just saying but if you start reacting to MLP and/or other MLP fanworks (The Moon Rises and Children of the Night would be good next steps, the fandom really loves the princesses story haha) I'd 100% be watching Regarding whether it's good-good, I'm not sure I would say it has Steven Universe level of overarching lore and intrigue, but there is a reason it could maintain a giant fanbase for so long, the songs are just really goddamn good, the world has a lot of potential and interesting details and there are a lot of very enjoyable episodes and fun characters. But yeah, it still has a very episodic structure and clings to a moral of the episode format for the first few seasons. Honestly you might be better off reacting to just the MLP songs rather than whole episodes (if you want to). From the show itself, This Day Aria comes to mind immediately, Winter Wrap Up and Smile were also early favorites.

Nika

if you were to check out some official songs, 'Open up your eyes' from the movie is my favourite

Spidersilk559

Please react to more MLP! Some of the episodes are more about learning friendship lessons than big lore drops, but the songs are bangers! Maybe a good way to react if you ever decide to would be to just react to the premieres and finales, since those have bigger lore drops and (imo) better songs. If you do decide to go through with watching MLP, β€œThis Day Aria” is, hands down, the best mlp song in the show

VioletInTheNight

Oh! But yeah saw the other comments, and it would be amazing if you checked out at least the songs from the show even if you don't watch the whole thing. This day aria and open up your eyes being my two personal favorites

Syenna Lupfer

Got to the end of the video, and I love you Mortius, BUT HOW DARE YOU SLANDER THE SHOW AMPHIBIA!!

Alexus Howard

Sooo, are we getting MLP Mondays or Friendship Fridays? But seriously, as a long-time MLPFIM fan, this makes me happy that you're spanning out of your comfort zone and reacting to new things!

Alexus Howard

Hope you're able to check out the moon rises as well!

Syenna Lupfer

I was a brony a million years ago (like 10) and I'll say it's been hard getting back into it as an adult, but part of that is just because I watched it a million times. it's still a worthy watch. Should you react to it as a series is another question but some of the fan music and original music is amazing

Anthony Tenorio

even if you end up not watchin mlp you should still react to the songs they are good

teatus

I will be honest, I think you should watch the series. It is surprisingly good, especially the musical numbers in it.

Thistle

Lullaby for a Princess is truly 10/10

teatus

I didn't expect this! Friendship is Magic is incredible and has so many good songs throughout the series. This series is known for having an older demographic and catching people off guard. I'd say it's meant for kids but is done in a way that anyone can enjoy. It has a lot of "filler episodes" that are fun but unlike most kids shows it does have overarching stories with continuity, especially in the later seasons.

Makayla

Context from a brony in case you need a level head to explain it to you: Celestia (the sun princess) and Luna (the moon princess) are siblings and co-rulers of the land (there is no queen or king, just the two princesses). About a thousand years ago, Luna fell to darkness and a battle happened and Celestia had to seal her away in the moon with the Elements of Harmony (the magic crystal you saw) In literally episode 1, this is all explained in greater detail and resolved entirely. The rest of the show largely is a anthology of friendship or relationship problems being solved in a "lessons for kids!" Kind of way. The season premier and finale of every season is more "magic battle against forces of evil", so don't go into the show expecting dramatic and heart wrenching storytelling with any regularity. They only started doing that more often in later seasons. People just really liked Luna and her story and thats why they treat her backstory like it's a big thing. The show references it like 3 times in 9 seasons for 1-off episodes. It's a good show, but you'd have to walk in expecting a "lesson of the day" kind of format, and accept that earlier seasons were absolutely very scuffed because they were more about toy marketing. They only realized how big the fanbase was and started taking the writing seriously after season 1. But again, it's a fun show. Watch it at your own caution!

[Reacted]

YES MLP IS GOOD I WATCHED AS A TEEN AND LOVED IT!! It deals with adult topics in a child friendly way that is still incredible, and some dark/scary stuff

Kiki

Also yes, MLP, especially the later seasons, is incredible, especially the songs

Spidersilk559

Welcome to the world of MLP fan content! As someone else said, please check out 'The Moon Rises'! It focuses more on Luna's side of the story

Spidersilk559

Please, please watch more mlp content. There's silly episodes and deeper episodes. It depends on your context. I'd say it's similar to Steven universe to where it starts it's more kid like but after bronys started to be the main populace of the Fandom it definitely matured especially season 4 onwards. Maybe watch some more music, see if you'd want to get involved.

Glitter

And yes, as many people have said, if you'd like to see the story told from Luna's side of things, you can search up "The Moon Rises” by Ponyphonic, if you want the song itself, and if you want an accompanying animation, search β€œThe Moon Rises” by Duo Cartoonist, and you should find another cool animation like this one. Or just go to this link (remove spaces): youtu . be / aqNRBs1O_fA

Marianamystery

I am beyond happy you got to experience this song!! Rarely does anyone not cry when seeing this, even non MLP fans, so you're all good :)

Natalie

If you want a song that's in the same vein as the sisters' relationship, The Moon Rises is the other side of the 'rivalry'. You see Luna's perspective (the moon unicorn), and the stages of corruption she experiences. If youre interested, it's also insane quality for 'an MLP song'. Just saying!πŸ˜‰ Btw, I love your content Mortius! :)

Natalie

I am SO happy you reacted to this! MLP seems very childish but it's actually so fun, speaking as someone who has been a fan of this show for a decade now. There are so many wonderful MLP fan songs, such as 'The Moon Rises', 'Children of the Night', or 'Lost on the Moon' which focuses on Luna's side of this same story. There are also several of my personal favorite fan songs such as '20% Cooler', 'Discord', or 'Rainbow Factory'. I would also heavily recommend checking out the show too! Not only does the first two episodes give you so much more context to this, but the entire show has a plethora of amazing songs! The show, no matter how old you are, finds a way to worm itself into your heart. I never expected when I started to enjoy the series as much as I did and many people I have seen also start out like that. Here's to potentially making Mortius an MLP fan!

IncompetentBird

I meant just in general with that song, reiterating what Ace said...

Phoenix Mackenzie

Fascinating, makes sense too

Phoenix Mackenzie

Oh my whole childhood I’m gonna cry again I can’t wait

Kiki

Yeah I think that's what it basically means.

Lyric

im guessing it basically like telling a small child that its ok, relax and to rest

Phoenix Mackenzie

Oh, that's a throwback for me... if you like the music (I'm paused right when you look up the vocalist, so we'll see how the writing hits you), even if you don't want to do more mlp stuff, the original artist, ponyphonic, has some good songs, and even a few that aren't mlp related. 'Autumn' is my favorite of those, though 'air song' gives it a run for its money, and the story behind 'bucky and the cowboys' (as told in the description of the video, it's a story form their dad's childhood) has me tear up a bit when listening to the song. they haven't put anything out in a long time, but they're one of the artists i was most grateful for finding down my mlp-related music rabbit hole, back then.

Ashley N Miyares

Now you HAVE to watch The Moon Rises animation πŸ’™

Grace Rittenhouse

Mortius if you're reading this, just to clarify: DONT. XD

AceOfTheDeck

I hope he also reacts to Luna's song!

Sydney Tatum

..... if you watch this Mortius... so will I πŸ€£πŸ˜…πŸ€£

Clarissa

Oh my god I was so excited to watch this! I'm so glad you got to experience it, i cannot tell you the hype this video had back in the day. If you want a bit more context without necessarily watching the show (which is not focused on the sisters) I recommend The Moon Rises animation. Fantastic stuff, this fandom was filled with skill

Kathrine0114

I don't have any clue about mlp

Simon Weed

Possible Mortius brony era for 2025 πŸ‘€

Joi Mays

Oh God this song is amazing and I cry every time Celestia does her silent scream, so beautifully sad

Dylan Mancy

I'm pretty sure "lullay” is an archaic word used to soothe or encourage someone to fall asleep. Yes I got it off Google cause I didn't know either. I could be wrong.

Lyric

though the story of mlp is not about the sisters, I would recommend watching the show, its entertaining

AgaeteOfficial

While it is an mlp fan song, it is absolutely beautiful and took YEARS to make. I believe it was hand drawn! You don't even need to know anything about mlp to understand what is happening and feel empathy for the characters. If you Want to watch mlp, it could be alot of fun; there's SO MANY songs and so many absolute bangers scattered throughout and at times they deal with quite mature topics that many kids shows would be afraid to tackle (there's an episode where they deal with disability, divorced families, racism) 19:25 alicorns (ponies with wings and horns) are immortal but still 1000 years is a long time to be banished XD If u want to react to another fan song, I recommend the moon rises since its basically from lunas pov!

AceOfTheDeck

In case it wasn't clear by the bracketed text, this is sarcasm. Obviously that's a no.

Emma

YESSSS IVE BEEN WANTING MORE PEOPLE TO SEE THIS πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Savannah Lobotomy

that ones a definate no tbh

Phoenix Mackenzie

Hey. Hey mortius. If you're interested in more mlp things, you should watch 'smile', a pinky pie song. It's a fun, cheery video! (Nobody tell him ;P)

Emma

MLP content? Heck yes!! Edit: if you want to watch it, the show is pretty fun, though the animation is quite different from this piece. But I've been a part of the fandom since season 2, and I think you might enjoy some of the stories. And in response to some of your questions, Alicorns (winged + horned ponies) are usually considered forces of nature, or close to gods. The two sisters, Celestia and Luna, were especially powerful, and controlled the sun and moon respectively. This piece in particular is in respect to the past of what happened between the sisters, and how Luna was corrupted and turned into a mare of Darkness calling herself Nightmare Moon. And yes, although most of the time the show is lighthearted and fun, there ARE some arcs and episodes that dive into darker themes later on. Though the show spans 9 seasons, I still think it's worth it to watch at least the first three, if you truly *do* want to dive into it. And if three seasons are still too much commitment, just the first season is a good start to see if you like the themes of the show, before diving fully in. But in the end, the decision is yours! We will be here to help ahed light on things if you need us to!

Marianamystery

oh man thats one heck of a nostalgia trip
