in the novel watch order you'd of already known he is alive and him lying his ass off about him dying is supposed to be a kind of meta joke, he even kept foreshadowing it, mentioning being beat to death by a junior high kid throughout the arc. Really goes to show that him saying to watch with a sense of doubt was true.
