Announcement

Hello! I have a giant wall of text I'd like to share with you guys!

I came to a pretty important decision at the start of this month. As you may or may not know, I work a full time job. Not even a fun goat or twink related job either, it was just work I sort of fell into and certainly was not exactly work I wanted to do. Unfortunately, this has been a repeating pattern for the last 10 years, trying all sorts of funny gigs! Silly gaffs.

Through out this time of non-twink work, I always saw art as a nice form of therapeutic escape that could also double as a neat side hustle when I needed it, but I was always too scared to actually make it a full time job. I would think about it, but the risk associated with leaving the regular grind kept me from pursuing it in that sort of light. Plus, with the current age of bullshit AI and weary payment processors, I definitely felt this sense of "missing the boat" by a huge margin, considering how long I've been doing art for and only just recently starting this Patreon. Getting Patreon off the ground was actually a bit scary in and of itself, even if it seems like an obvious choice for artists to make. I put it off for months because I wasn't sure if I could live up to expectations or if I would end up just pissing off people for paywalling or pissing people off for not being consistent enough or pissing people off for pissing off too many people or just piss. So much piss flowed through my mind at that time and it definitely messed with my confidence a bit.

...Anyway, that being said, I'm totally quitting my job and going full time with art. My resignation is in and I'll be free by the end of September.

After experiencing the epic life affirming decisions of perpetual self doubt and office labor, I think I'm finally ready to take a risk and try to go whole hog on this art thing. See if I can survive off it, see what I can learn or not learn, or see if I truly am late to the punch. Even if I fail and have to move onto something else, at the very least, I can look back and say that I tried, and that's what all of this is about! Luckily, too, I have enough cushion room in my finances to be able to take this leap of faith and see where it lands me.

So what does that mean for the art of TWANG? Well!! There will be more of it, that's for sure!

Commissions will be a monthly thing, uploads will be faster, and I want to dip my silly little hooves into animation. I'm also thinking of starting a discord server and perhaps doing weekly streams as well as patron awards. Oh, and I will also finally get SubscribeStar updated and running, for those who prefer that platform and of course for the safety of it being around.

Here's what will also change: The price of tiers.
I mentioned before how I lacked confidence when starting this Patreon, and as a result, I decided to go with two fairly low ball tiers just to test the waters a bit and to see if I can keep up with consistency and generally gauging how to run one of these guys. Now that I'll have to be relying on art to pay bills, I'll have to increase the prices just to provide a little extra cushion room... but I also want your opinion on this as well. So here's what I was thinking:

$1 Tier - Simple tip jar, for those who simply want to support
$3 Tier - Cozy - Early access to fully rendered art, and discord server access
$5 Tier - Comfy - Same as above, with the extras like sketches, voting, character suggestions, etc
$8 Tier - Warm -  Same as above, with sketch rewards.

Of course, this will coincide with more artflow! More features will be introduced as we go along, like commissioner priority and access to animations (mayhaps some more tiers as well??) but for now I'm going to leave it at that and make sure that you guys are okay and comfortable with the change. Or if you'd like to make a comment or a feature suggestion, please feel free!

Wow! I think that was it?! I sure hope this dry read of an announcement didn't bore you too much. Thank you for reading it through! And I mean, thank you in general too. I am seriously grateful to even have an opportunity like this, and for all the support everyone has provided thus far. I kind of really want to make this work out, and to really deliver the good stuff so that your generosity isn't ignored.

Just happy to support you along the way since I wouldn't even know what to commission, and I also love seeing your work flow and how you break-down drawings. :)

I definitely don't want anyone to be confused when the change occurs! I'll try out the mass DM feature as well as make a second announcement so that there's ample time to switch tiers before October. The reason why I changed the prices this way is so that I wouldn't have to go back and edit every single post to reflect new tiers, and I was hoping that Patreon's UI would make it easy for people to shift tiers if they wanted to.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but the way you re-structured this, everyone is going to be charged more than they signed up for by patreon in October. I just got an email from patreon explaining this, and it took about 15 minutes sorting through the site to figure out I had to switch my $1 tier to a $1 tier. If that doesn't make sense it's because it's confusing and non-intuitive. I'm on the $1 tier, I currently support 13 artists across the various subscriber sites and can only afford $1-2 tiers with rare exceptions. When I tried to figure out how to get off the new $3 tier (even though I'm currently on the $1 tier I'm also on the new $3 tier in a schrodinger's tier situation), it still showed me on a $1 tier, there was no $3 tier, and I could only change to a $5 or $10 tier. I don't trust patreon so I kept looking and further down the membership page I found the tip jar tier and that's how I was able to switch from a $1 tier to a $1 tier. Only by not trusting patreon was I able to stop it from upcharging me. I'm not sure everyone else is A. going to notice the email B. understand the email C. be able to figure patreon's terrible UI Maybe another announcement explaining what will happen in October is in order. I would hate for you to have a bunch of angry supporters because of the weird way patreon goes about billing people.

This is super awesome news!! I'm really happy to hear you're confident and ready to take a leap like this, and I'll gladly continue to support you through it :3 I wish you nothing but happiness and success!

Loki Goat

Wow that big news! Excited to see how things will go moving forward. Wishing you the best

JustDeluxe

Glad that you decided to take the step! I sure hope this works well, and surely I'll change my tier to the higher! :) Good luck homie!

regarding the tiers and the content you share on each one that's probably for you to figure out. I have seen a lot of variety in tier levels - same reward level for a bunch of different prices, then a suggestion tier more expensive - different resolutions of the images per tier - different level of access to the artist's work - vod/work files for top tier and a ton more. Possibilities are endless, in the end you need to find what works best for your fans/community.

Good luck Twang!

I appreciate the feedback, and i can see what you mean about the rewards. I dont know if i necessarily want to move voting out from the middle tier, but i was thinking of moving suggestions for voting into the top tier - I think that would be fair. I was also considering adding features later too, like for example, if i get consistent at animations, i would make that a top tier feature. Also thinking about process videos too, or maybe access to session files? Burn out is something I want to be aware of too, thanks for bringing it up. I have a bit of a plan for that. Im going to schedule myself appropriately, with the consideration of sleep, good food, exercise and time off all included. I’ll start with the current features for now, and slowly add features as i go along… hopefully that’ll ease the transition!

Milo the Goat

Awesome! I was thinking about how P randomly disapproves of content now and it's great that you have a backup ready to go

On the one hand: congrats to finally start doing what you enjoy doing/quitting the job you hate. Be careful to find a good work-life balance, there have been artists who have burned out by overdoing it. And there are artists who are just milking the fans. On the other hand: I hate tiered rewards, especially if art is locked behind higher tiers. It usually makes me support the artist for one month, then take a break for 4 or 5 months by unsubscribing and then support for another one. I'd personally much prefer if you put the suggestions in a higher and voting in top tier. But I am sure other people prefer to have a participation option rather than to get "only sketches". - I can understand why people put artworks behind different tiers, just not a fan of it.

Harry_Hirsch

I'm excited for you but also nervous for you. You seem amazingly talented to me so I feel like there'll be no lack of demand for your art. I'll also be considering going to a high Patreon tier. Good luck ♥️
