From what Sense was saying, it seems that Übel unavoidably sees how powerful the defensive magic is but chooses to deny that reality in favor of viewing it as a simple piece of cloth or just some hair. They've said before that magic can't do something the caster can't imagine perfectly, so there can't be any doubt. I think it's similar to looking at the sky and believing that it's green instead of blue. The amount of effort it would take to truly convince yourself of that is nearly insurmountable. That's probably why Sense sees Übel as having a superpower: she's able to deny what's right in front of her face and believe what she wants to completely. Granted, it must be easier when thinking of cutting cloth or hair, but for a mage to fully deny the powerful magic they can plainly see is crazy. That's kind of a terrifying concept, since it implies that the more unhinged someone is, the more effective their magic will be.

2024-10-21 04:30:48 +0000 UTCI think Sense should have pointed out that their plan works for every copy that they will be facing. It still leaves a challenge in that they need to figure out who can counter Sense, but it ensures she doesn't look like an insurmountable challenge.
