During the flashback when the first razwall visited Betty in the library, he started reading books muttered stuff about a vessel and souls so you can extrapolate that he used some secret rite from Greed's knowledge to basically transfer his soul down his line of decendents which explains why they all look similar and have the same memories. Also, idk if this is a spoiler or not since I haven't read the source and am anime only, but that powerful guy roswell, Betty, greedy etc encountered in the past it seems roswell maybe somehow merged with him since they now share the same vocalisms and makeup. Just something to think about : )

There are a lot of details that you can miss in this show, or are better gone over in the novels. If you have any questions after the next episode that you want answers to, no spoilers for future stuff obviously, I'd be happy to explain. I know Nic asked why the Witch of Envy showed up earlier in the season. It's because Subaru talked about Return by Death. We saw her hand try to reach him in the Castle of Dreams, but fail to find him. So instead, she appears in the real world. Subaru realizes that Echidna knew it would happen, and that's why she transformed the cloth on his arm into a knife, so he could stab himself. The only unanswerable questions from that point in the series are why Satella can appear since she is sealed, along with the big mystery of why Subaru has Return by Death and why he was summoned from his world.

An interesting tidbit related to that, the author sometimes writes what if stories on April Fools, and one of them was if Subaru took Echidna's offer, which meant telling Beatrice that he was that person. It ended up with Beatrice eventually hating him and not doing anything because he tricked her, which is a really cool detail and makes me respect the themes of Arc 4 (S2) even more.

Maybe I'm too narrow-minded here and also deadset on the canon, making it hard to imagine a different scenario, but I'm not sure how else you'd write the scene between Betty and Subaru. I don't think it was as impactful as what happened with Garfiel's resolution, but I appreciate the author's intention because it's in theme with what many other characters are learning to do this season, which is to overcome their past, make their own decisions, and form bonds.
